no node processing or events in 1.9.10

After updating to 1.9.10 in a project of mine, htmx doesn't process any nodes or triggers any events. htmx.logAll() logs nothing.
No custom extensions used, only "head-support".
I normally use the npm package, but I've tried using the CDN instead (in case my build pipeline is messing sth up), to no avail.

So I realized its related to #1972.
In my case DOMContentLoaded is triggered before document.readyState changes to complete (I'm simply using a script tag in head with defer and async), so the htmx ready() function is never called.
There was already a fix for this that was sadly reverted: #2037 (comment)
This mentions adding a htmx.processAll() function, but this is not yet implemented, so what is the intended way to fix this right now?

Seems to me something like

var readyWasCalled = false;
getDocument().addEventListener("readystatechange", function() {
    if (getDocument().readyState !== "complete") return;
    fn();
    readyWasCalled = true;
});

fixes this and is just superior to triggering on DOMContentLoaded

I had this issued too. I would really like to use async to improve my page insight scores (making HTMX modular would be great too). It needs something like

if (doc.readyState == "loading") {
   window.addEventListener('load', loadEvent);   
}
else {
      loadEvent();
}
