strange catch behaviour

I would expect the following code to warn "fail", but it doesn't, is this expected behaviour?

use Try::Tiny;
my $success = try {
    my $class = 'Some::Module::That::Does::Not::Exist';
    eval "require $class";
}
catch {
    warn "fail";
    return undef;
};

however, $success is undef

This is correct behavior. By wrapping the call to 'require' in an eval, you are trapping the error there ($@ will contain the error after the call to eval), so Try::Tiny never sees it. eval also returns undef when an error was thrown, so that's what the try block is returning.

Another suggestion:
One thing that should be added to the docs might be a better description on how to handle "return":

    die 'oh no';
}
catch {
    warn "fail";
    return;
};

return unless $success;

The require docs are somewhat misleading there - eval "require $class" isn't equivalent to require Class - the equivalent would be something along the lines of eval "require $class; 1" or die $@. Class::Load is a good module to look into to handle these sorts of things properly.

Also, the perlmonks issue is already addressed by the docs - see the second point under CAVEATS. An example wouldn't hurt though, I'll see about adding that (I'll also accept a pull request for that, if you would get to it sooner(: ).

I would suggest adding the following part, it is not very technical, describes
the problem and offers a solution:

Placing return in the catch block does not end the parent subroutine call
(in the following example: "parent_sub"), even if an exception is thrown:

sub parent_sub {
    try {
        die;
    }
    catch {
        return;
    };
    print "this text WILL be displayed, even though an exception is thrown";
}

To get the expected behaviour, the return value has to be captured:

sub parent_sub {
    my $success = try {
        die;
    }
    catch {
        return;
    };
    return unless $success;

    print "This text WILL NEVER appear!";
}
