Unmute is a fully offline, multilingual communication app for Android.
Unmute is designed to be a simple and intuitive application that turns a phone or tablet into a symbol-based communication board. People who can't (or don't want to) speak can build sentences by tapping cards — symbols, emoji, or their own photos — and let the device speak for them. Users or caregivers can customize the board freely, so it grows and adapts with the user.
- 100% offline. Unmute doesn't need you to be constantly connected to a network, doesn't need you to set up an account, nothing leaves the device.
- Language support. The app currently supports two languages (English and Spanish) and the app language can be changed at any time.
- Made to be customized. Add, edit, reorder, or remove cards and sections, and use photos from your own gallery, helping you to adapt to your, your child or care recipient's needs.

- Symbol grid boards with color-coded sections: Greetings, People, Feelings, Food & Drink, Actions, Places, Things, and Body (you can add more!).
- Sentence bar — tap cards to build a sentence, or type it directly, then hit Speak.
- Autospeak: the device can read each word aloud the moment you add it.
- Hundreds of symbols and emoji to choose from, with English and Spanish labels.
- Tap the lock to start editing.
- Reorder cards and sections by holding and dragging them.
- Add cards to any section — pick a symbol, an emoji, or a photo, and choose a color.
- Edit any card's icon, label and spoken phrase.
- Add and remove sections.
- Grid profiles: "Big" for few, large buttons; "Small" for a dense grid; plus your own custom profiles.
- Card text size can be changed to adapt your needs.
- Use your communication device without disconnecting your headphones, Unmute lets you to select the output device, allowing you to communicate while you keep your headphones on.
- Adjust TTS speech rate and pitch, and test the sound from Settings.
- Language — English, Spanish, or follow the system.
- Grid layout (card size) — choose or create grid profiles.
- Card text size — You can choose between 5 different text sizes.
- Speech — rate, pitch, autospeak, test sound.
- Audio output — automatic, device speakers, headphones or external speakers.
- Secure Mode locks settings to avoid the user to accidentally edit their board.
Unmute is fully offline. It never asks for an account, never connects to the internet, and doesn't need storage permissions to use your own photos (it uses the system photo picker instead).
Unmute has the option to import and export your data to make it easier to change or backup your device's cards and settings. We make it fully offline, making a file with all needed data and that is completely stored in your device. We don't have access to that data, whatever that can be stored on it is yours and yours only.
