Summary

  • Restore deferred crates.io publishing to the active backlog without authorizing release.
  • Enforce strict no-regression trained-model release gates and accurately reopen unfinished work.
  • Validate active artifacts, archived tasks, and active metadata separately.
  • Add the bounded Stone Soup reference-review plan; no algorithm adoption or provider-data acquisition.

Verification

  • OpenSpec strict validation: 52 active/spec items and 26 archived changes passed.
  • OpenSpec doctor and pre-commit configuration checks passed.
  • No unrelated local agent/instruction changes included.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request adds OpenSpec validation for archived tasks and active metadata. It updates archived task labels and revises planning records for crates.io publishing, flight-data training, learned IMM tracking, and Stone Soup compatibility review.

Changes

OpenSpec validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Archived and active change validation
.github/workflows/ci.yml, .pre-commit-config.yaml
CI and pre-commit hooks validate archived tasks and run openspec status for each active change directory.

Archived task correction

Layer / File(s) Summary
Historical task labels
openspec/changes/archive/2026-05-18-cubature-kalman-filter/tasks.md
The document explains that five [~] entries are historical dispositions and relabels them as Historical item.

Crates.io publishing plan

Layer / File(s) Summary
Publishing plan structure and status
openspec/changes/crates-io-publishing/*
The plan gains spec-driven metadata, updated deferred-status notices, a publishing capability section, and a revised purpose statement.

Flight data training plan

Layer / File(s) Summary
Training plan metadata and capability structure
openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/.openspec.yaml, openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/proposal.md, openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/specs/*
The change adds schema metadata and restructures capability and impact descriptions. CI documentation now specifies mocked providers and synthetic fixtures instead of live OpenSky access.
Detector and release acceptance
openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/design.md, openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/specs/learned-detector/spec.md, openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/specs/learned-tracker-components/spec.md
Detector acceptance uses baseline-relative distance AP. A strict no-regression gate blocks checkpoint commitment or publication when downstream MOTA regresses.
Learned IMM behavior
openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/specs/learned-tracker-components/spec.md
The specification documents feature naming, analytic updates, learned posterior replacement, warm-up behavior, and inference fallback behavior.
Training evaluation follow-up
openspec/changes/flight-data-training-pipeline/tasks.md
Tasks 9.3 and 11.5 are reopened, and Phase 12 adds synthetic-only tasks for category translation, detector evaluation, and elapsed-time parity.

Learned IMM integration

openspec/changes/learned-imm-tracker-integration/.openspec.yaml, openspec/changes/learned-imm-tracker-integration/proposal.md, openspec/changes/learned-imm-tracker-integration/specs/learned-imm-tracker/spec.md
The change adds spec-driven metadata and restructures the proposal and capability specification around the learned IMM tracker.

openspec/changes/stonesoup-reference-review/design.md, openspec/changes/stonesoup-reference-review/tasks.md
The plan defines boundary, numerical parity, and synthetic sequence tests, CI recommendations, and candidate algorithm assessments.
Review report and implementation controls
openspec/changes/stonesoup-reference-review/proposal.md, openspec/changes/stonesoup-reference-review/design.md, openspec/changes/stonesoup-reference-review/tasks.md
The change specifies the final report, prioritized follow-up backlog, evidence requirements, and restrictions against production, dependency, CI, or schema changes.

Resolve the conflicting IMM integration contract.

Decision 19 and the learned-IMM specification require the classifier to replace only the posterior mode-probability estimate. The analytic transition matrix and interaction-step mixing must remain unchanged. Update Decision 5 to match this contract.

Suggested fix
-**Decision:** Track B implements one learned model first: an IMM mode-probability classifier that ingests a **filter-state** history (state vector plus a projection of the covariance, produced by running the classical tracker over simulated measurements) and outputs `(p_CV, p_CA, p_CTRV, p_coord_turn)`. Its ONNX checkpoint is loaded by a new `learned-imm` feature gate in `thresh-filter` that lets the existing IMM filter use learned mode probabilities instead of (or alongside) the analytic mode-transition matrix.

- Line 93: Update run_eval and its Cargo invocation so learned-IMM evaluation
explicitly enables the learned-imm feature, while preserving forwarding of

explicitly, and synthetic end-to-end metrics cover both learned paths before
marking task 9.3 complete.

1–7 to A1–A7, 8–14 to B1–B7, and 15–18 to C1–C4. Specify that missing, zero, and
out-of-range numeric values produce no category, while string categories are
preserved for the five-class mapper and empty, unknown, or unsupported strings
map to other. Include tests for all numeric boundaries and representative string
cases.

- Line 3: Remove the skip_specs setting from the OpenSpec metadata and add the

it no longer bypasses specification validation.

- Line 38: Update task 5.2 to require both scoped and repository-wide OpenSpec

Pre-merge review disposition: 56cf5dc fixes the confirmed publishing-scope contradiction (thresh-py remains excluded; all 26 publishing tasks remain open) and aligns historical IMM Decision 5 with Decision 19: posterior probabilities only, no replacement of analytic transition/mixing. PR #160 commit e5b9b9b makes scoped, repository-wide, and archive OpenSpec validation explicit; all three commands pass locally (52 live/spec items and 26 archives). The learned evaluator and numeric-category concerns are implemented and tested in PR #161, including Cargo features/model forwarding, explicit unavailable-mode failures, actual detector invocation, and complete category/invalid-input coverage. The proposed numeric ranges in the bot suggestion are off by one; #161 uses the official OpenSky mapping (2–8→A1–A7, 9–15→B1–B7, 16–20→C1–C5; 0/1 are no information). The skip_specs suggestion is not applicable: this review changes no capability behavior, and OpenSpec 1.13.1 explicitly supports skip_specs for documentation-only changes; strict validation accepts it. No dummy capability or production behavior was added. Waiting for the updated PR checks before the authorized merges into develop.
