Goal

Closes AND-1436

A migration guide for coding agents that move an app from the v1 Compose UI to v2.

Implementation

  • New ai-docs/ai-migration.md, in the same structure as the chat SDK guide.
  • It covers the VideoTheme, StreamDesign and VideoUiConfig changes and the removed styling layer.
  • Rename tables for colors, typography, dimens and shapes.
  • Component API changes, icons and removed ui-core resources.
  • Behavior changes, a JSON rename block and verification greps.

Testing

Docs only. The JSON rename block parses, and every token, color, typography and icon name the guide maps to exists in the develop-v2 sources.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Added a migration guide for moving the Stream Video Android Compose UI module from v1 to v2.
    • The guide covers design tokens, UI components, API and behavior changes, rename references, and migration verification steps.

A guide for coding agents that migrate an app from the v1 Compose UI to
v2, in the same structure as the chat SDK guide: detection greps, the
VideoTheme and StreamDesign changes, rename tables for colors,
typography, dimens and shapes, component API changes, icon and resource
changes, behavior changes, a machine-readable rename block and
verification steps.

It covers the design refresh only. The non-UI v2 changes are not in it
yet, and the guide says so.

The guide is mergeable with bounded migration risk, but automated replacements may choose the wrong border token and the checks may miss remaining v1 APIs. Correct both before relying on the guide for automated migrations.

A rabbit checks the tokens in a row,
Then finds which names must change and where to go.
New buttons, palettes, guides to read,
A build and smoke test check each deed.
The rabbit hops; the migration notes are set.

StreamDesign, StreamTokens and StreamPrimitiveColors now come from io.getstream.android.core.ui.design, the radius tokens are Dp, headingExtraSmall is 14sp and the typography has link styles. Update the package names, the radius and GenericContainer notes, the typography table, the source paths, and warn against the StreamInternalApi component colors.

… guide

- Map the v1 button presets by color: primaryButtonStyle was grey and
secondaryButtonStyle was blue, so they map to secondarySolid and
primarySolid. The toggle-off styles have no v2 preset.
- Map StyleSize by height instead of renaming it to StreamButtonSize.
- Stop treating StreamDialogPositiveNegative, StreamOutlinedTextField,
GenericStreamButton and StreamDrawableButton as renames, and document
  their parameter changes.
- Say that the XML module has other v2 API changes outside the scope.
- Note that an exhaustive when over the sealed CallAction needs the new
  ToggleScreenShare branch.
- Give brandPrimaryDk a light and a dark mapping.
- Show ColorScale.from for the brand color.
- Add the speakerphone, HiFi, decline and cancel icons.
- Label the mappings the SDK did not use itself as closest matches.
