build dist/ during npm Git dependency installation
document direct Git installation
add standard repository metadata to the package manifest

Verification

npm ci
npm run typecheck
npm test (37 passed)
npm run build
npm pack --dry-run
fresh Git dependency install produced dist/index.js
git diff --check
