The original
/Users/tkevinbigham/Downloads/MFD-mainfolder is an extracted copy with no.git. I created a clean clone at/Users/tkevinbigham/Downloads/MFD-github-sync, copied the content diffs, committed them there, and pushed this branch via SSH.
