A fork of csabor/ExtractWebmVideo that extracts the embedded video from Just Dance 4 AutoDance files by locating the WebM header and writing the video data to a separate file. Along with drag-and-drop support, MP4 conversion using FFmpeg, and additional quality-of-life features.
Table of Contents
The whole reason of this fork was to add some new features, so here's the list!
- Updated Framework
- Updated .NET Framework from v4.6.1 to v4.8
- Drag & Drop
- Drag your AutoDance file onto
ExtractWebmVideo.exefor your WebM.
- Drag your AutoDance file onto
- Convert to MP4
- Easily convert the WebM into MP4 using FFmpeg with a command line argument. (FFmpeg not included)
- Delete original AutoDance
- Delete the original AutoDance file with a command line argument.
I also made the README nicer, but I don't really count this as a new feature.
All the original code to convert the AutoDance file into the WebM was written by csabor and is mostly unchanged. I do not take any credit for it, all I have done is add some new QOL features and provided a built version as the original does not contain a build, only source.
.NET Framework Runtime 4.8 is required to run ExtractWebmVideo.
Windows versions that support .NET Framework 4.8 may already have it installed.
Getting the raw AutoDance file from an Xbox 360 is pretty simple! All you need is a USB drive.
THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON THE DRIVE. BACKUP ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT
-
Plug your USB drive into your Xbox 360.
-
Go to Settings -> System -> Storage.
-
Hover over the USB drive.
-
Press 'Y', and select Format.
If your drive shows as "Unformatted", press 'A' instead of 'Y' and you should be able to format it.
-
Plug your USB drive into your Xbox 360.
-
Go to Settings -> System -> Storage.
-
Select the device with your AutoDance save file.
For example, Hard Drive or Memory Unit.
-
Go to Games and Apps.
-
Find Just Dance 4.
This may work with later titles, although this is untested.
-
Select your AutoDance, then copy, and finally select your USB drive.
They may not be named, however, ExtractWebmVideo supports batch conversion, so feel free to copy all of your AutoDances over!
-
Plug your USB drive back into your PC
-
Go to Content -> Profile ID -> Game ID -> 00000001
All of your AutoDance files will be in this folder, you can try to use this file but the extraction may come out with some artifacting. I recommend using wxPirs before running ExtractWebmVideo
I recommend using wxPirs before running ExtractWebmVideo, in my experience, this reduces the chance of artifacting.
- Download wxPirs
- Go to File -> Open and select the AutoDance file
- You will see another file with the same name but a smaller size pop up, right click on it, and select extract.
- Use this extracted file inside ExtractWebmVideo
- Head over to the latest release
- Download
ExtractWebmVideo.exe
ExtractWebmVideo.exe <File or Directory> <Extra arguments (-mp4, etc)>
Psst! You can also drag and drop your AutoDance file onto ExtractWebmVideo.exe
Extract to WebM
ExtractWebmVideo.exe "ugc-0"
-> ugc-0-converted.webm
Extract to MP4
ExtractWebmVideo.exe "ugc-0" -mp4
-> ugc-0-converted.mp4
You can specify a folder instead of a file to batch convert all files within the directory!
-help Print help text and exit
-mp4 Convert WebM to MP4 (FFmpeg required)
-delete Permanently remove original AutoDance file (cannot be recovered; confirmation is prompted)
-github Open GitHub page and exit
-version Print installed version and exit
FFmpeg is required to convert the extracted WebM to MP4. By default, the extracted video will be a WebM file.
The PATH is the system variable that Windows uses to locate needed executables from the command line.
The program will attempt to search for FFmpeg in PATH, if it cannot find it, it will resort to looking for ffmpeg.exe next to the main exe in the root directory.
I personally recommend installing FFmpeg to PATH, as this is usable at anytime across your system by you or any program that may need to use it.
-
Download FFmpeg from any mirror available here.
FFmpeg Essentials is sufficient for ExtractWebmVideo, though FFmpeg Full is recommended for a PATH install.
-
Extract the
binfolder from your download. -
Place the files inside the
binfolder somewhere safe, such asC:\ffmpegIt should look something like this
C:\ └─ ffmpeg ├── ffprobe.exe ├── ffplay.exe └── ffmpeg.exe -
Open the Start Menu and search for Advanced system settings.
-
Select Environment Variables.
-
Under System variables find the Path variable and select Edit.
-
Add a new entry with the value of the path you extracted FFmpeg into, such as
C:\ffmpeg -
Done! Open Command Prompt and type
ffmpegto verify it installed correctly. You may need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect
-
