The Wall

Borrow a wall. Say what you actually think.

The Wall started with a pretty simple question:

What if you could just borrow a wall?

Not a social network. Not another place where you need a profile and a carefully curated identity.

Just a space where people can leave a thought without putting their name next to it.

Maybe it's a wall for your friends.

Maybe your class.

Maybe a wedding, an event, a neighbourhood, a team at work, or just a bunch of people who want somewhere to say things they probably wouldn't say out loud.

A wall can be public or private. It can stick around for years or disappear after an afternoon.

You borrow it. You decide who gets in. You see what people leave behind.

That's the idea, anyway.

I'm building the first version and figuring out what The Wall actually becomes along the way.

What you can do

  • Leave anonymous thoughts, up to 280 characters
  • Browse the public wall
  • Sort bricks by what's fresh or what's getting attention
  • React to bricks
  • Organise thoughts by category
  • Create your own wall for a group, event, community or team

More importantly, I'm experimenting with what happens when anonymous communication isn't just one giant public feed.

Why I'm building it

I've always liked the idea of the internet being a place where you can just put an idea somewhere and see what happens.

The Wall is one of those ideas.

It might become something useful.

It might turn out to be a terrible idea.

I'd rather build it and find out.

Status

The Wall is currently being built.

Things will change. Some things will break. There will probably be a few questionable decisions along the way.

That's part of it.

Building in public

This is one of the first things I'm building under MessATroll.

I'm documenting the process as I go — the good ideas, the bad ones, the bugs, and hopefully the occasional thing that actually works.

If you've got an idea for The Wall, found something broken, or just have an opinion about it, I'd genuinely like to hear it.
