Walkthrough

KDA speculative verification now uses fused Conv4 replay with shared histories. The cache manager commits accepted convolution inputs and recurrent-state history through separate CuTe commit and flush kernels. Replay eligibility, metadata preparation, and disaggregated-generation handling also changed.

Changes

KDA MTP replay

Layer / File(s) Summary
Fused replay kernel and verification path
tensorrt_llm/_torch/custom_ops/cute_dsl_kimi_k3_kda_mtp_replay.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/custom_ops/cute_dsl_kimi_k3_kda_mtp_ops.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/cute_dsl_kernels/blackwell/kimi_k3_kda/kda_mtp_decode.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/modules/kimi_kda/*, tests/unittest/_torch/modules/kimi_kda/*
The replay kernel performs Conv4 and KDA replay, writes outputs and history, and records candidate inputs. Verification passes replay metadata and a dummy mask. The former fused decode implementation and convolution-window synchronization helpers are removed.
Replay work items and eligibility
tensorrt_llm/_torch/modules/mamba/mamba2_metadata.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/_util.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/config_utils.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/modules/kimi_kda/kimi_k3_mamba_metadata.py, tests/unittest/_torch/modules/mamba/test_mamba2_metadata.py
KDA replay preparation builds work items from decode state indices and history lengths. Replay eligibility checks Kimi K3 V2, hardware, cache, and decoding settings. Metadata tests cover decode counts and exclude context entries.
Shared histories and accepted-state commit
tensorrt_llm/_torch/custom_ops/cute_dsl_kimi_k3_kda_mtp_commit.py, tensorrt_llm/_torch/pyexecutor/kv_cache/mamba_cache_manager.py, tests/unittest/_torch/executor/kv_cache/test_mamba_cache_manager.py, tests/unittest/_torch/modules/kimi_kda/test_kda_mtp_replay.py
The V2 cache manager allocates K/U/G histories and candidate convolution inputs. It validates state views and calls kda_mtp_commit for accepted inputs and history rollover. The flush path updates recurrent checkpoints and clears selected history lengths.

Add multi-round parity coverage for fused KDA replay and commit.

test_kda_mtp_replay.py tests replay and commit kernels separately. It does not test the mixer’s history-buffer mapping across rounds. The current verify parity test uses a cache with replay disabled.

Add a replay-cache parity test that repeatedly calls forward_verify, commits accepted prefixes, and includes dummy rows and history-window rollover. Compare outputs and final Conv, SSM, and replay-history state with sequential verification and accepted-step promotion. This can catch incorrect old_B, old_x, or old_dt mapping that causes later-round outputs or state to diverge.

3323-3344: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick win

Add tests for the configurations that the new replay check rejects.

The check now enables replay only for one specific configuration. The only factory test, test_kimi_explicit_v2_manager_enables_kda_replay, covers the enabled case. If a rejection condition regresses, an unsupported configuration can allocate replay caches. The mixer would then raise RuntimeError in forward_verify_fused at serve time, because no sequential fallback buffers exist.

Add a parametrized test in tests/unittest/_torch/executor/kv_cache/test_mamba_cache_manager.py. It can reuse _capture_kimi_v2_manager_ctor and assert that kda_replay_num_spec is absent in these cases:

  • head_dim=8;
  • gate_lower_bound is missing;
  • is_sm_100f returns False;
  • is_kda_mtp_verify_available returns False.

Add end-to-end coverage for the transfer-completion replay reset.

The manager tests call reset_kda_replay_history_for_disagg_gen directly. The executor test disables speculative decoding, so it skips the new branch. Add a test that reuses a slot with stale replay history, completes the receive, enables speculative decoding, and verifies that the first speculative step starts with zero replay history.

Cover the tokens_per_gen_step boundary in the replay rejection test.

The assertion near line 447 uses a V1 manager, so replay is rejected by the manager-type check before tokens_per_gen_step is evaluated. It does not cover values below 2 or above 8. Add V2-manager cases with out-of-range tokens_per_gen_step values and assert that "kda_replay_num_spec" is absent.

The test file is already collected through broad executor entries such as l0_cpu.yml and l0_h100.yml; an individual l0_b200.yml entry is not required.

Test the executor’s replay-history reset at transfer completion.

The manager tests call reset_kda_replay_history_for_disagg_gen directly. They do not verify that this handoff calls it with completed, non-destination request IDs. A wiring regression could leave stale replay history in a reused slot. Add a focused executor test with one completed generation receive and one destination receive. Assert that only the generation receive ID reaches the reset hook, preferably alongside the disaggregated-transfer tests.

reset_kda_replay_history_for_disagg_gen. Include one completed generation
receive and one destination receive, and assert that only the generation receive
ID is passed to the reset hook.

@kris1025, could you help to review this PR as trt-llm-torch-attention-devs? Thanks~

PR effort10 points — Single-buffer replay and immutable per-layer work rows require deep review of history advancement, commit ordering, slot mapping and compatibility with existing replay paths. Removing alignment handling adds another contract to verify. Visible changes justify substantial architectural effort, although the kernel implementation is omitted.
ImportanceImportant — ReplayStateUpdateMetadata changes buffer optionality and accepted-history semantics, while the new work-item kernel snapshots state before per-layer replay. These alter speculative recurrent-state ownership and ordering contracts, with correctness implications across shared cache infrastructure.
