1201-1278: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winMake the autotuner stub fail if deterministic dispatch calls it.
The current stub returns
(runner, cached_tactic), so a regression can callAutoTuner.choose_oneand still produce outputs that the test accepts. The assertions compare later results with outputs produced by the same possibly incorrect tactic; they do not require the fixed deterministic tactic.Use a raising stub and update the description to reflect the behavior being checked:
Suggested fix
- """Deterministic dispatch must survive cached atomic tactics and graph replay.""" + """Deterministic dispatch must bypass autotuned selection and survive graph replay.""" ... - # A pre-existing autotune cache may contain a split-K tactic. The public - # deterministic path must not execute it, including at a cache hit. - if _mhc_fused_hc_mma_available(): - cached_tactic = ("fused_half_mma", 0, 4, 256, 1) - else: - cached_tactic = ("fused_all_fma", 2, 2, 0, 1) + # Deterministic dispatch must bypass autotuned tactic selection. + def choose_one_must_not_run(*args, **kwargs): + raise AssertionError("deterministic dispatch called AutoTuner.choose_one") + monkeypatch.setattr( - mhc_cuda.AutoTuner.get(), "choose_one", lambda *args, **kwargs: (runner, cached_tactic) + mhc_cuda.AutoTuner.get(), "choose_one", choose_one_must_not_run )The 16 parameter combinations cover repeated calls, row-versus-batch execution, fused normalization, lagged inputs, and CUDA graph replay. The module is listed in the B200 and GB200 CI test lists. The remaining gap is direct detection of an autotuner call.

Revise the test docstring and nearby comment to describe verifying that deterministic dispatch bypasses autotuned selection while preserving the existing execution and graph-replay checks.

Dev Engineer Review
When
FORCE_DETERMINISTIC=1,mhc_fused_hcbypasses autotuner selection and uses the fixedfused_half_fmatactic with one K split and block size 256. Other modes retain autotuned dispatch. Verify deterministic results and performance on supported GPU architectures.QA Engineer Review
tests/unittest/_torch/modules/test_mhc.pyaddstest_mhc_fused_hc_force_deterministicwith eight cases covering token counts 1 and 129, hidden sizes 4096 and 7168, fused normalization, repeated execution, cached atomic tactics, row-versus-batch consistency, and CUDA graph replay. The test file is listed in the B200 and GB200 CI lists. Related lagged-composition coverage is listed for B300 and GB300. No manual-QA entry was identified. Coverage verdict: sufficient for the represented dispatch regressions. Execution results are not established by the supplied evidence.Per-File QA Perspective
tensorrt_llm/_torch/modules/mhc/mhc_cuda.py—FORCE_DETERMINISTIC=1introduces a fixed-tactic dispatch path and bypasses cached autotuner tactics. Verify output stability and performance across supported devices.tests/unittest/_torch/modules/test_mhc.py— Adds deterministic-dispatch regression coverage, including cached atomic tactics, fused RMSNorm, and CUDA graph replay. The test file is listed in the B200 and GB200 CI lists.Description
Fused mHC dispatch ignores
FORCE_DETERMINISTICand can select an atomic split-K tactic, including one loaded from an existing autotune cache. Repeated calls can therefore disagree even when deterministic execution is requested. When
FORCE_DETERMINISTIC=1, bypass autotuned tactic selection and use the existing fixed half-FMA tactic with one K split and block size 256. Other modes retain the ordinary autotuned dispatch. This issue was found during prefill/decode consistency testing. No associated NVBug is recorded. Related to #19501.
Test Coverage
Add eight cases to
tests/unittest/_torch/modules/test_mhc.py, covering:Previously recorded GB200 results:
numerical correctness, fused normalization, realistic input scales,
and chained inputs.
The existing
test_mhc.pyCI entry collects the new cases.PR Checklist
