Fixed the eager-view cache finding in 3e5bd3f. On an eager cache miss, obsolete batch-shape entries for the same metadata source and execution width are evicted. Cache hits avoid the eviction scan, and CUDA graph views retain their metadata and buffer identities. Added six regression cases covering old view/GPU-buffer release, growing and shrinking batches, and isolation across sources and widths. The graph-runner test now interleaves eager batch-size changes with strict-buffer-checked graph replay. These tests are covered by the existing executor-directory entry in Validation using the v1.4.0rc0 source overlay and matching installed binaries on an RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell:

Add opt-in compact execution for supported variable-width beam search while preserving capacity-stride KV allocation and sampler layouts. Use per-width CUDA graph metadata and restore inactive logits safely. Prepare views from the actual execution batch, preserve both workspace scopes, and cover input, graph, capability and cleanup boundaries. Refresh generated serving schemas and configuration coverage. Description
Implements the opt-in prototype proposed in #19726. Variable-width beam search normally runs the model at
max_beam_widtheven when only a smaller prefix of beams is active.compact_beam_widths=[20, 300]gathers those active rows for model execution and restores capacity-stride logits for the existing sampler. The option defaults to disabled. KV allocation, physical KV page IDs, parent-beam indices, and sampler layouts remain at capacity. Each configured execution width has its own metadata buffers and CUDA graph key. Eager workspace references are released after forward, including exceptions.
Initial support is single-GPU dense Llama, Qwen2 and Qwen3 with TRTLLM attention, pure single-token decode, and a uniform input beam width across real requests. Model support requires an explicit class capability declaration. Configured widths must be at least 2 and smaller than capacity. Width-one steps and unsupported/unconfigured inputs use capacity execution; LoRA combinations are rejected. Public-model validation below covers Qwen3; Llama/Qwen2 model-level coverage remains for upstream CI.
The branch merges main at
3024eb446e7251e8aa204442a11c57e0f090b53f. Both compact widths and the new engine-owned static-input configuration are retained, along with upstream's NCCL graph lifecycle changes. A parameterized GPU regression checks width switching and refreshed inputs with separate and shared engine buffers. The refactored decoder integration and attention/MoE workspace cleanup remain covered.Correctness and numerical behavior
Changing forward shape can change attention/GEMM kernel selection and floating-point reductions. This option does not guarantee bitwise equality, identical beam rankings, or identical top-1 for arbitrary workloads, and does not change the engine's numerical policy.
Fresh public
Qwen/Qwen3-0.6BBF16/full-vocabulary checks:[2,2,4,4,5,5], eager/CUDA graphs × overlap off/on: 104 paired request-result comparisons retained identical full ordered token lists. This includes 30/62-token KV-page-boundary prompts, EOS enabled, forced EOS, stop tokens, and decoding 32 tokens past the end of the width array. Single-request graph padding, one-step generation and unconfigured-width fallback also matched.0.12307882in a KV-page-boundary case. Repeating that configuration's full suite with a shared numerical policy matched every token, rank, score and finish reason in all 26 paired request-result comparisons.[20,20,300,300,500,500], default numerical policy: top-1 matched for both prompts, but candidate intersections were 487/500 and 255/500, with only 39/500 and 8/500 in the same rank. Maximum shared-candidate score differences were0.28159046and2.18630552. These are substantial candidate/ranking differences, not merely tail reordering.During earlier validation of the same rc0 runtime, a width-one-to-wider schedule hit an existing sampler row-count assertion in the unmodified installed rc0 wheel, independently of compact execution. That runtime case is recorded as an rc0 validation limitation, not a passing compact test. The PR retains its width-one fallback. A decreasing schedule was also checked and correctly rejected by the existing main executor, which requires non-decreasing widths.
Performance
Geometric mean latency reduction across pair medians: 7.72%. Approximate 95% paired t interval on log ratios: 7.37–8.07% (six independent process pairs).
GPU: NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 72GB Blackwell; PyTorch 2.14.0+cu132; precompiled TensorRT-LLM 1.4.0rc0. Model revision
c1899de289a04d12100db370d81485cdf75e47ca, BF16/full vocabulary, capacity 500 and schedule[20,20,300,300,500,500], two prompts, CUDA graphs and overlap enabled, KV block reuse disabled.Six fresh-process pairs alternated A/B and B/A order. Each process ran three warmups and 40 timed calls. Only
compact_beam_widthschanged between sides; default numerical policy and the native sampler were used. Measurements are synchronized wall-clock latency of a two-requestLLM.generatecall, including output handling. GPU jobs ran sequentially. This is a closed-loop latency experiment, not an offered-QPS load test or a general speedup claim. Additional graph memory, warmup, metadata packing and full-vocabulary logits padding remain costs.Public-model reproducer

compact_beam_widthsis opt-in and defaults to an empty list. The implementation adds compact forward execution for supported variable-width beam-search batches while keeping capacity-width KV allocation and sampler layouts.stage_through_hostdefault, and addlm_head_output_dtype.
