fix(incott): map lift-off through the fitted sensor's table - #267
The Incott driver applied the PAW3950 lift-off remap to every unit. The vendor configurator only remaps for the PAW3950; for a PAW3395 it sends the millimetre step unchanged and offers no 0.7 mm. On a PAW3395 (non-Pro) mouse the panel therefore showed 2 mm as Low (0.7 mm) and 1 mm as High, and writing Low set 2 mm.

Source for the per-sensor split: the vendor apply path as ported in oexi/incott-driver-desktop (src/protocol/device.js, MIT; its tests diff every report against the vendor's original JavaScript). It also explains the old "false lead": lodUI = [0.7, 1, 2] with lodHW = [0, 1, 2] describes the PAW3395 path. No code was copied.
Changes
src/incott/index.ts: INCOTT_LOD_WIRE_TO_TENTHS_PAW3395 / INCOTT_LOD_TENTHS_TO_WIRE_PAW3395, incottLiftOffStepsForSensor, and an optional sensorId on incottDecodeLiftOffDirect, incottDecodeLiftOff and incottEncodeSetLiftOff. null (the default) keeps the PAW3950 table, so existing callers are unchanged.
src/drivers/incott/hid.ts: the client keeps the identity reply's sensor (open() and readStatus()), decodes and writes lift-off through it, and advertises only Medium/High on a PAW3395.
Tests: codec decode/encode per sensor; driver read, write and refusal of 0.7 mm on a PAW3395; PAW3950 unchanged.
docs/incott-testing.md: strikes the stale "Unresolved unknowns" lift-off item (already settled on 2026-09-08) and documents the per-sensor table.

This is the first point-by-point read of the PAW3950 table (only 0.7 mm had been read). The PAW3395 column has not been read on hardware; no PAW3395 unit was available. An owner of a non-Pro G23, G23V2 SE or Ghero could confirm it the same way.
Map Incott lift-off distance through the fitted sensor's table
Adds PAW3395 wire-to-distance and distance-to-wire tables in index.ts, with a helper for the supported steps per sensor. Encoders and decoders take an optional sensor ID and pick the matching table; calls without one keep the PAW3950 mapping.
IncottHidClient now caches the sensor ID from the identity query in open() and refreshes it from identity replies in readStatus(). Lift-off reads, writes, and supported distances use the cached sensor's table.
PAW3395 supports only Medium (1 mm) and High (2 mm); Low (0.7 mm) is rejected. PAW3395 wire value 0 decodes to null.
Adds hardware captures for the G23 Pro 8K dongle at 0.7/1/2 mm and documents the mapping in incott-testing.md. The PAW3395 mapping is from the PAW3950 session pattern and is not verified on hardware.
Risk: if the identity refresh in readStatus() fails, the last known sensor table is kept — check sensor retention in hid.ts when switching dongles or receivers.
The driver applied the PAW3950 remap (0.7 mm = 2, 1 mm = 0, 2 mm = 1) to
every unit. The vendor configurator only remaps for the PAW3950; for a
PAW3395 it sends the millimetre step unchanged (1 = 1 mm, 2 = 2 mm) and
offers no 0.7 mm. On a PAW3395 mouse the panel therefore showed 2 mm as
Low and writing Low set 2 mm.
The lift-off codecs take an optional sensorId (null keeps the PAW3950
table), the driver passes the identity reply's sensor, and a PAW3395 is
offered Medium and High only. Source: the vendor apply path as ported in
oexi/incott-driver-desktop (MIT). The PAW3395 table is not yet read on
hardware.
Three OpenMouse hardware test reports from a G23 Pro on the 8K dongle, each taken after setting one step in the vendor-port app: 0.7 mm reads wire 2, 1 mm wire 0, 2 mm wire 1. Only the 0.7 mm point had been read before.

Walkthrough
The Incott lift-off codec now selects wire mappings by detected sensor. PAW3395 offers 1 mm and 2 mm; PAW3950 and unknown sensors retain the existing 0.7, 1, and 2 mm mapping. The HID driver uses sensor identity for status reads, supported options, writes, and read-back checks. PAW3950 captures document the three settings.

Sensor-specific mapping and mapping evidence src/incott/index.ts, src/incott/index.test.ts, docs/incott-testing.md, captures/incott-lift-off/*
The codec uses the PAW3395 mapping for 1 mm and 2 mm. PAW3950 and unknown sensors use the existing mapping for 0.7, 1, and 2 mm. Tests cover both sensor mappings. Documentation and captures record the PAW3950 values; the PAW3395 mapping is not hardware-verified.
Sensor-aware HID status and setting flow src/drivers/incott/hid.ts, src/drivers/incott/hid.test.ts
The HID client retains the sensor ID and uses it to decode lift-off status, list supported distances, encode writes, and verify read-back values. Tests cover PAW3395 distance options and writes, plus PAW3950 behavior.
OpenMouse-Project/mouse-protocol#261: PR #261 verifies the original G23 Pro as a PAW3950 device and records a lift-off reply. This PR adds captures for all three PAW3950 settings and documents their wire mappings.
Lift-off settings can display or write the wrong value after an identity-query failure or an unrecognized sensor marker. The impact is localized; merging requires owner awareness of these remaining edge cases.

Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — Incott lift-off settings now use sensor-specific mappings and hide unsupported choices. Existing PAW3950 behavior is preserved; the PAW3395 mapping is vendor-derived and covered by focused tests, though not yet checked on hardware.

The PAW3395 tests cover only incottDecodeLiftOffDirect. A regression that removes the sensor argument from incottDecodeLiftOff would decode packed wire 2 as 7 instead of 20 while the current tests still pass.

readStatus() cleared sensorId whenever the identity query failed, so one dropped reply switched a PAW3395 back to the PAW3950 lift-off table. Also drops the stale note that only the 0.7 mm point had been read.
