fix(logitech): stop background profile reads from racing profile writes - #1182
Conversation
HID++ replies are matched by feature and function only, so a background
onboard-profile reload running during a flash took the write's sector
reads and failed its checksum check ("The profile failed its checksum;
refusing to write"). HITS tuning applied live but never reached the
profile, so it reset on the next power cycle.
- flash waits for an in-flight profile reload as well as a refresh
- the automatic reload no longer starts during a write
- the reload button is ignored during a write
- the wait limit is raised to 5 s to cover a wireless reread

A status applied mid-write skips the onboard-profile read so it can't interleave with the write's sector reads. If the profiles were still unloaded, nothing retried that read once the write finished, leaving the list empty until the next status change or a manual reload.
ApprovabilityVerdict: Approved at Macroscope's review found this PR approvable — This narrowly scopes Logitech onboard-profile reads so they cannot overlap staged profile writes, while deferring or rejecting refreshes during writes and allowing longer wireless reads to finish. The UI change only routes the refresh button through that guard, keeping the fix localized. Notes:

What was broken
Saving a Logitech profile to the mouse sometimes failed with:
Root cause
HID++ replies are matched on feature index + function id only. There is no request id, so if two
memoryReadcalls are in flight against the same feature, a reply can be delivered to the wrong caller. What happened:
onboardProfilesisnull), so every status poll inapplyStatusfired an untrackedvoid reloadOnboardProfiles(). Fire and forget: nobody held a reference or a flag for it.flashPendingChangesonly waited onrefreshInProgress, which doesn't cover the reload, so it saw "nothing in progress" and went ahead.openActiveProfilereceived a sector that belonged to the other read, the CRC check failed, and the write was aborted.onboardProfilesagain, so the next poll started another reload. That feedback loop is why it kept happening once it started, and why it looked intermittent until it wasn't.What users actually saw (HITS mice)
writeStagedAnalogButtonswrites the live values first, so the buttons felt like they had changed. ThenpersistAnalogButtonTuningfailed. The profile kept its old tuning, and the mouse reverted on the next power cycle or wake. The fix
One rule: never read profiles and flash at the same time.
flashPendingChangeswaits ononboardProfilesLoadingin addition torefreshInProgress, so an in-flight load finishes before the write starts.applyStatusno longer startsreloadOnboardProfileswhilesettingInProgressis set. The write path rereads profiles itself, so the reload is redundant there anyway.rereadOnboardProfiles()returns immediately if a write is in progress. The Profiles refresh button now calls it instead ofreloadOnboardProfilesdirectly.REFRESH_WAIT_TIMEOUT_MSgoes from 2 s to 5 s, because a full profile reread over wireless can exceed 2 s. If it still times out, the flash fails through the existing error path.Nothing is removed, and there are no UI or string changes.
Behavior changes worth knowing about: a flash can now block for up to 5 s before timing out, and clicking refresh during a write silently does nothing.
Testing
npm run build,npm test(400 pass), andnpm run size(JS 2,785,453 / 2,800,000 bytes) all pass.Note
