fix: harden storage/clipboard/news and correct card/page edge cases - #1213
Guard localStorage/clipboard failures across settings/capture/controller
Fix M2-NEX profile bounds/import safety and button markers in overview
Harden hardware test flash staging/restoration and abort cleanup
Fix ButtonMap recording/reset edge cases and HITS timing
Correct sidebar battery source for mouse devices
Fix dynamic sensitivity draft editing in PerformanceCards
Remove duplicate availability condition and tidy DPI editor
Correct self-xss-guard comment
Validate with build, tests, and bundle size
Note
Fix storage, clipboard, and news-link failures; correct card and page edge cases
Wraps local-storage writes and reads in exception handling, so preference saving and X11 polling-rate persistence no longer throw when storage is unavailable or full (interface-preferences.ts, controller.ts)
Makes clipboard access optional in the capture dialog and profile-key copy handler; failures now show an error status instead of throwing (CaptureDialog.tsx, InterfaceSettings.tsx)
Adds a safeNewsUrl validator so only HTTP(S) or relative notice links pass through to the news banner; javascript:, data:, and vbscript: URLs are dropped (news.ts)
Fixes button-map recording to ignore standalone modifier keys and end recording on unsupported keys; multi-button reset continues after one assignment fails (ButtonMap.tsx)
DPI edit debounces now capture the row state at schedule time, and dynamic-sensitivity curve edits preserve earlier unsaved draft points; hardware-test restore failures stop the flash leg before proceeding (DpiCard.tsx, PerformanceCards.tsx, HardwareTestPage.tsx)
Improved reliability when saving device and interface settings, including when browser storage is unavailable or full. X11 polling rate now defaults to 1000 Hz if its setting can’t be loaded.
Fixed button recording to stop on unsupported input and reset assignments to continue after individual failures.
Preserved unsaved sensitivity-curve edits and improved profile selection when the active profile is unavailable. Profile import errors now display a notification.
Improved error handling for device tests and clipboard actions, and kept device battery information in sync.
Filtered news links to allow only HTTP and HTTPS URLs, while retaining supported web and relative links.

Walkthrough
The changes update device status and editing behavior, improve handling of browser API and storage failures, and validate URLs in fetched news items.
Changes: Device state and test behavior
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Device status and polling-rate storage src/app/AppSidebar.tsx, src/device/controller.ts
The sidebar reads battery details from live device status. X11 polling-rate initialization defaults to 1000 Hz if storage access fails, and saving an applied rate is best-effort.
Profile selection and device editing src/features/buttons/ButtonMap.tsx, src/features/devices/OverviewPage.tsx, src/features/devices/cards/DpiCard.tsx, src/features/devices/cards/PerformanceCards.tsx, src/features/devices/cards/availability.ts
Button recording ignores modifier-only presses and stops for missing or non-keyboard bindings. Reset continues after an assignment failure. Profile selection falls back to the first profile, and import failures show an error toast. DPI commits use a captured row snapshot, successive curve edits retain unsaved changes, and a duplicate availability condition is removed.
Hardware test callbacks and timing src/features/hardware-test/HardwareTestPage.tsx, src/features/superstrike/HitsTestDialog.tsx
Flash restoration stops if staging fails. Hardware-test callbacks report apply exceptions as failures. The hits test measures reaction time with performance.now().
Browser APIs and preference persistence
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Clipboard handling and production reference src/features/capture/CaptureDialog.tsx, src/features/settings/InterfaceSettings.tsx, src/platform/self-xss-guard.ts
Comparison copying uses its failure path when clipboard access is unavailable. Profile copying handles missing clipboard access and rejected writes. The self-XSS guard comment points to main.tsx.
Saving interface preferences catches storage or serialization errors. A test covers storage writes that throw a quota error.
News link validation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
News URL validation and tests src/features/news/news.ts, src/features/news/news.test.ts
Fetched news links are retained only when they parse with HTTP or HTTPS protocols. Tests cover rejected script schemes and retained HTTPS, HTTP, and relative links.
Modifier-only keys no longer end shortcut recording. Reset can retain an incorrect pending label in a narrow case, but it does not prevent use of the device; this is mergeable with owner awareness.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to 1d865
The reviewed changes constrain fetched links and preserve existing device-write controls. No new security attack path was established. Device restoration remains best effort, and incomplete coverage prevents a stronger assurance.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The demonstrated sensitive outcomes are navigation from remotely supplied notice links and profile writes to a locally connected device. The inspected recording and reset changes do not establish a remotely callable device-control interface or increased device authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Remote notice URLs pass an HTTP(S) protocol check before reaching the banner anchor. The anchor retains target="_blank" and rel="noreferrer". This is a scheme restriction, not a destination-host allowlist: arbitrary HTTP(S) hosts and relative links remain accepted.
observed — Recording installs its keyboard listener only while recording is active and recordable, removes that listener during effect cleanup, and supports Escape cancellation. The converter produces only keyboard bindings or null, so the newly added non-keyboard cancellation branch does not currently broaden accepted input.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
inferred — A pre-existing profile-ownership limitation remains: staged button edits are shared controller state, while the writer resolves the selected profile at commit time. Profile switching confirms with the user but does not discard the staged button edits. The full PR comparison changes neither this ownership mechanism nor its write target, so it is not retained as a PR-introduced concern.

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This is a multi-file production hardening PR covering storage, clipboard, device-test, UI edge cases, and remote news handling. The news-link validation is a security-sensitive change because remote content is transformed into an external anchor URL, so it warrants human review.

- Line 247: Update markEdited in DpiStageEditor to capture the pending rows when
scheduling the timer and have the callback pass that snapshot to commit, rather
than reading rowsRef.current when it fires. This keeps deferred commits tied to
the editor mode that scheduled them.

when restoration returns false; preserve the existing failure behavior for
thrown restore errors.

Do not mark a reset as pending after a no-op staging call.
applyLogitechButtonAssignment resolves without staging when its guards reject the operation, including when the client or edited profile is unavailable. await does not prove that the assignment was staged. Line 141 can therefore display Pending even though the reset did not enter the staged write. Return a staging-success result from the helper and update pending only when that result is successful.
