What's new

  • Links in PDFs work. Internal links jump to their page; web links open after a dialog shows the full address. Links are read with PdfBox, so they work on every Android version, rotated pages included.
  • Back after a jump. Contents, bookmarks, notes, go to page, search results, links and the edge scroller remember where you were. A "↶ p. N" chip at the bottom left returns to the exact scroll position; tapping it again goes forward.
  • Pinned documents. Pin from a card's menu. Pinned documents stay above Recent, in the order you drag them into (or use Move up / Move down), and don't count toward the 50-document limit.
  • Backup and restore. Settings › Backup saves recents, bookmarks, highlights and notes to a JSON file. Restoring merges into what's there. On a new device a document gets its notes back once it's opened from the file picker.
  • App theme. Settings › Theme: system, light or dark. System bar icons follow it.

Fixes

  • Notes went missing when a file was opened from another app. Documents are now keyed by file name and size instead of URI, so the picker, a file manager and the share sheet all reach the same notes, bookmarks and search index. Recents entries for the same file are merged, keeping a URI that still opens after a restart. Data stored under the old URI keys is merged in the first time each document is opened.
  • Removing a document can be undone from the snackbar.
  • The Continue reading card has a menu to pin or remove it.
  • The password, error and loading screens were black text on the dark theme; they now use the theme's colors.

Testing

  • ./gradlew testReleaseUnitTest assembleRelease passes; new unit tests cover recents ordering, document keys and link coordinates on rotated pages.
  • Checked on an Android 15 tablet emulator: internal, web and rotated-page links, the back chip, dark theme and the password screen, pinning, drag reorder and its persistence, remove and undo, backup and restore, and the same file opened through two different providers keeping its bookmark and highlight.

- Follow links in PDFs: internal links jump to their page, web links open after
confirming the address. Read with PdfBox, so they work on every Android version.
- After a jump (contents, links, search, go to page, the edge scroller) a chip
returns to the exact spot, and back again.
- Pin documents above the recent list and drag them into any order; pinned
documents don't count toward the recents limit.
- Back up and restore recents, bookmarks, highlights and notes as a JSON file.
- Light, dark or system app theme; system bar icons follow it.
- Identify documents by name and size instead of URI, so the same file opened
from another app keeps its notes, bookmarks and index. Data stored under the
old URI keys is merged in on first open.
- Undo for removing a document from the list; the Continue reading card gets a
menu to pin or remove it.
- Loading, error and password screens use the theme's text color, so they're
  readable in the dark theme.
