Total Serialism

Total-Serialism is an app to generate Customizable Total Serial Style sheet music.

Features

• Generates Total Serial pdf sheet music in seconds
• Customizable Features:
  • Choice of 15 different instruments
  • Set unique or random Row numbers and types for all instruments
  • Set a dynamic for each row
  • Pieces can be an arbitrary length
  • Set Tempo
  • Set Time Signature
  • Set piece title and composer
  • Export Parts

Build Requirements:

• C++ compiler with C++20 support (specifically std::format)

Building and Running

Python Gui:

Create an environment: python -m venv <venv_name> and install with pip install ..

Run with total-serialism in the command line

C++ cli (and tests):

To build:

mkdir build
cd build
cmake -DTS_DO_TESTS ..
cmake --build . --parallel 10

Run via cli:

• Run with seeded randomness: sh score.sh <options>
• Run with specified input and output file: sh score.sh <output_filename> <input_filename>
• Each can accept a -p flag to create individual parts

Tests can be built with cmake -DTS_DO_TESTS=ON .. in the configure command. The tests are in the build/tests directory and can be run with ctest tests -j5 from the build directory

• Release 1.0 code freeze: 10/24/24
• Release 1.1.0 code freeze: 5/26/25
• Release 1.2.0: 6/30/26

Notes:

Input Files are in this format. It's typically easier to use the gui if you have PyQt6 installed.
