Summary

Add public type stubs and NumPy-style docstrings for index and clustering APIs, including signatures, array dtypes, valid options, and examples. Ship the stubs and py.typed in wheels.

Require installed-package typing checks in Python CI and wheel tests. Mypy is a test-only dependency; runtime APIs and index formats are unchanged.

Testing

  • Portable wheel build/install; C++ formatting and full clang-tidy; Python formatting/lint and git diff --check.
  • Python suite: 744 passed, 6 skipped. Final declaration/test follow-ups: 16 installed-wheel checks passed.
  • CI workflow tests: 47 passed, including selected-job failure propagation. Missing mypy fails rather than skips.
  • Pyright: both typing test files have zero diagnostics; all 17 intentional invalid calls are rejected.

Skipped tests require the C++ example executable (4) or repaired Linux ARM64/macOS wheels (2). Cross-platform validation remains for PR CI.
