fix(api): bound table discovery with validated request deadlines - #399

Table discovery is used by session-start and initialization gates, but its metadata GET had no application deadline. A stalled response could hold those paths past the configured query budget and prevent the non-cacheable fallback from running. Reuse the existing timeout setting and return the untrusted sentinel on timeout while preserving ordinary HTTP and network retries.\n\nConstraint: Keep real-empty workspaces cacheable and retain retry behavior for ordinary transient responses.\nRejected: Retry timed-out metadata requests | each attempt is already known to have exceeded the configured application budget.\nConfidence: high\nScope-risk: narrow\nReversibility: clean\nDirective: Keep table-discovery timeout behavior aligned with query() if the shared request policy changes.\nTested: Baseline regression red; scoped table-timeout regression green; Deeplake API and retry suites 78 passed; typecheck; build; diff check.\nNot-tested: Full repository suite and live Deeplake service.
Normalize the shared query timeout before constructing native abort signals so table discovery still reaches healthy backends when configuration is malformed. Preserve the documented default and zero semantics, truncate fractional milliseconds, and cap finite delays at Node's signed timer maximum. Constraint: AbortSignal.timeout accepts unsigned delays above the underlying signed timer range but Node converts them to a 1ms timer. Rejected: Clamp to AbortSignal's 32-bit unsigned validation maximum | delays above 2147483647 overflow the underlying Node timer and expire immediately. Confidence: high Scope-risk: narrow Reversibility: clean Directive: Keep timeout parsing lazy because OpenClaw populates its tuning dispatch after module import. Tested: Node 22 scoped Vitest 3 files/86 tests; npm run typecheck; npm run build; git diff --check Not-tested: Full Linux repository suite; coordinator-owned per campaign instructions

Empty and whitespace-only request-timeout settings now use the 10,000 ms default; an explicit

Fixes #398.
Table discovery requests lack the query path deadline. A stalled metadata request can keep initialization waiting indefinitely instead of yielding the existing non-cacheable unknown result.
Apply the native request timeout while fetching metadata and consuming the response body. Return the non-cacheable fallback on timeout rather than retrying an expired request. Normalize invalid configuration to the existing default, preserve zero, truncate fractional values and cap oversized finite delays at the supported timer range.
Regression evidence
The original stalled-fetch regression fails on unchanged code. Prior-candidate negative controls additionally exposed malformed/overflowing timeouts. The final branch passes nine deadline regressions and 86 scoped SDK tests, covering fast successful queries, defaults, zero, invalid values, pre-header stalls and response-body stalls. The tests use native abort signals with controlled network boundaries.
Version Bump
No release requested. Package versions, dependencies, lockfiles and release workflows are unchanged.
Test plan
30a44e35c3e0fef956a92b907cadbfe83f7f0551passes the independent Node 22/Linux full suite with coverage, zero failed and zero skipped tests.Exact commands and retained artifacts, job
runtime-table-fetch-deadline. This checks the branch independently, not only a combined branch.Limits
The deadline remains per attempt rather than a total budget across all retryable HTTP responses. Tests use synthetic network boundaries, not a live service. This does not duplicate semaphore cancellation in #375 or promise cancellation of an implementation that ignores its AbortSignal.
The unchanged full macOS baseline has 19 failures and 10 skips; a clean full macOS suite is not claimed. No live models, customer transcripts, real credentials or user installations are used by the regression tests.
