Feature Request: Show distance between two markers with a line #117
Hi again 👋, thanks for clarifying how the distance feature works now!
I have two follow-up requests/questions:
1.Automatic Distance Between Markers
Would it be possible to add an auto distance calculation between markers, so that whenever I add multiple markers, the app directly shows the distance between one marker and the next marker (in the order they were placed), without having to manually create a polyline each time?
2.PDF Export with Map Format
Could you consider a feature for exporting marker data into a map-style PDF (instead of just a table)? The workflow I imagine:
i. When I click "Export to PDF", it generates a map image with all markers plotted by latitude/longitude.
ii. Each marker is labeled with its serial number.
iii. Draw straight lines connecting markers in order of serial number.
iv. Display the distance (in meters) along each connecting line.
v. Add a title at the top: "Marker Map Report" with the generation date.
The goal is for the exported PDF to look like an actual map with markers and distance annotations, instead of just a text/table format.
Do you think these would be feasible additions to the app?
This seems to be what you're originally requesting with this feature request, and is not supported by the app currently, I'm not sure how you would expect that feature to work, where would you display that auto-calculated distance? Would it be some kind of floating text displaying a distance between markers? That idea sounds interesting, but a pre-requirement might be having the foundation for workflows (#70) in place first. Workflows is the next thing I want to focus on because a lot of features users are asking for will become possible with this.
2.PDF Export with Map Format
This has been requested before, some vague statement is currently under #3 ("print marker to PDF, with map, snapshot, title, description, etc."), creating a dedicated feature request for this would help clarify the requirements, would you mind creating a new feature request for this specifically so we can discuss things there?
Do you think these would be feasible additions to the app?
Once the requirements are clearer, it will be easier to say. Then the feasibility becomes a question of "when" I can work on it with all the other things already in the queue.
Hi again 👋, hope you’re doing well. Thanks once more for the earlier clarification and for considering my previous feature requests.
I have a few additional follow-up requests/questions related to camera integration and large marker handling:
1. GPS Coordinates on Captured Photos
Would it be possible to add a feature where, when I capture a photo using the in-app camera (or device camera), the image automatically displays the latitude and longitude of the capture location?
What I’m looking for specifically:
Latitude & longitude text rendered on the bottom-right corner of the photo
Coordinates taken from the device location at capture time
Implemented in a memory-safe way (avoiding full-resolution bitmap loading)
This would be very useful for location verification and field documentation workflows.
2. Handling Large Numbers of Markers (45k–50k+) Without Crashes
I’ve noticed that when opening or rendering around 45,000–50,000 markers, the app crashes with an error
Error:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Failed to allocate a large memory block
growth limit ~256MB
I wanted to ask:
Is there a recommended or tested maximum marker count?
Does the app internally support marker clustering or viewport-based loading?
Are there configuration options or best practices to safely handle very large marker datasets?
Ideally, the app should remain stable even with large marker counts by only rendering what’s visible on screen.
3. Full Source Code Availability (Personal Use)
Lastly, I wanted to ask whether the complete source code of the map marker application is available under a paid or licensed model.
My use case is:
Personal / internal usage only
No redistribution
If this is something you offer, please let me know:
Availability
Pricing range
Licensing terms
Thanks again for your time and for maintaining this project.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on whether these would be feasible additions.
Yes that's something I could look into, but I'd need a dedicated Github issue to track that, could you create a new separate issue just for this point please?
Handling Large Numbers of Markers (45k–50k+) Without Crashes
From my testing, 50k markers works just fine, but I didn't have much text in those markers I created. I'm guessing if those markers are text-heavy it could be a problem. Currently, the entire map is stored in memory, there is viewport-based loading but it only determines what markers to show on the map, not the markers being in memory (they are all kept in memory).
If that's something you value as a feature, you could create a separate issue for very large data sets that don't fit in the RAM, this is not handled at the moment.
In the meantime, to work around that limitation, here are some solutions (that all have tradeoffs):
creating smaller maps with smaller data sets
removing descriptions from POIs so they're lighter in memory (if that's an acceptable tradeoff and you're only looking to visualize them on the map)
using a device with more RAM (if you have a PC with say 64GB of RAM, the web app can probably fit way more markers)
Full Source Code Availability (Personal Use)
Sorry, I don't have any plans to make the source code available to other parties public or private yet.
As for this specific issue, we've gone a bit far from the original topic of "Feature Request: Show distance between two markers with a line" 😅 - this makes me realize I should probably lock direct creations of "issues" and open the "discussions" feature of Github, this seems like a more natural way to operate, I'll think about it more.
Anyways, looking at your original feature request, it seems like it would be addressed if the current polyline POI had a "show distance labels" option on it, right?

Hello, thanks for proposing the idea, I think this feature might already exist in the app.
I believe you can achieve this with the following steps:
See this video illustrating the steps:
untitled.webm
Is that the feature you were looking for, or did you have something else in mind?

This issue is stale because it has been open for 90 days with no activity, it will be closed automatically in 30 days if there is still no activity.
