Hotplug (USB?) disks

Might it be feasible to extend vfkit with support for hotplugging disks (and/or cdroms)?

I did not get a clear answer as to whether this was possible from skimming the virtualization.framework documentation:

• this page says "Because you can’t change or add devices to a running VM, ..."; but
• this page documents a class VZUSBDevice, with overview given as "Classes that conform to this protocol represent hot-pluggable USB devices."
