6.22.3 (2026-09-12)

Bugfix

* (Windows) Revise earlier fix for :issue:`9508` to avoid breaking
executables located on ImDisk RAMDISK volumes. (:issue:`9510`)
* Compare the icon file suffix case-insensitively, so an icon named with an
upper-case suffix such as ``MyApp.ICO`` is recognised as already being in the
right format instead of being rejected or silently re-encoded.
  (:issue:`9521`)
* Fix ``onefile`` parent-process validation to allow intermixed nested
  sub-processes. (:issue:`9513`)

Bootloader

  • (POSIX) Enable onefile parent-process validation for POSIX executables that have setgid bit set, and for Linux executables that have file capabilities set (i.e., have a security.capability extended file attribute). (:issue:9524)
  • (POSIX) Revise the validation of owner and permissions of onedir application's contents directory when the executable has either setuid or setgid bit set. If setuid bit is set, the owner ID of the application's contents directory must match the owner ID of the executable itself, and only owner is allowed to have write permissions on the directory. If setgid bit is set, the group ID of the application's contents directory must match the group ID of the executable itself, and only owner and the group are allowed to have write permissions on the directory. (:issue:9524)
  • Limit onefile parent-process validation only to executables that are running with elevated privileges while inheriting environment variables set by unprivileged user. On POSIX systems, this corresponds to executables with setuid bit set, while on Windows, it corresponds to UAC-elevated processes (running with TokenElevationTypeFull token). (:issue:9520)

6.22.2 (2026-08-17)

Bugfix

* (Windows) Fix spurious security validation error when a ``onefile``
executable is launched from a symlinked directory or a junction.
  (:issue:`9508`)

Updates pytest from 9.0.3 to 9.1.1

Release notes

Sourced from pytest's releases.

9.1.1

pytest 9.1.1 (2026-06-19)

Bug fixes

  • #14220: Fixed a logic bug in pytest.RaisesGroup which would might cause it to display incorrect "It matches FooError() which was paired with BarError" messages.
  • #14591: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 which caused overriding a parametrized fixture with an indirect @pytest.mark.parametrize to fail with "duplicate parametrization of '<fixture name>'".
  • #14606: Fixed list-item typing errors from mypy in @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> argvalues parameter.
  • #14608: Fixed a regression in pytest 9.1.0 where conftest.py files located in <invocation dir>/test* were no longer loaded as initial conftests when invoked without arguments. This could cause certain hooks (like pytest_addoption) in these files to not fire.

9.1.0

pytest 9.1.0 (2026-06-13)

Removals and backward incompatible breaking changes

  • #14533: When using --doctest-modules, autouse fixtures with module, package or session scope that are defined inline in Python test modules (not plugins or conftests) will now possibly execute twice.

If this is undesirable, move the fixture definition to a conftest.py file if possible.

Technical explanation for those interested: When using --doctest-modules, pytest possibly collects Python modules twice, once as pytest.Module and once as a DoctestModule (depending on the configuration). Due to improvements in pytest's fixture implementation, if e.g. the DoctestModule collects a fixture, it is now visible to it only, and not to the Module. This means that both need to register the fixtures independently.

Deprecations (removal in next major release)

  • #10819: Added a deprecation warning for class-scoped fixtures defined as instance methods (without @classmethod). Such fixtures set attributes on a different instance than the test methods use, leading to unexpected behavior. Use @classmethod decorator instead -- by yastcher.

    See 10819 and 14011.

  • #12882: Calling request.getfixturevalue() <pytest.FixtureRequest.getfixturevalue> during teardown to request a fixture that was not already requested is now deprecated and will become an error in pytest 10.

    See dynamic-fixture-request-during-teardown for details.

  • #13409: Using non-~collections.abc.Collection iterables (such as generators, iterators, or custom iterable objects) for the argvalues parameter in @pytest.mark.parametrize <pytest.mark.parametrize ref> and metafunc.parametrize <pytest.Metafunc.parametrize> is now deprecated.

These iterables get exhausted after the first iteration, leading to tests getting unexpectedly skipped in cases such as running pytest.main() multiple times, using class-level parametrize decorators, or collecting tests multiple times.

See parametrize-iterators for details and suggestions.

  • #13946: The private config.inicfg attribute is now deprecated. Use config.getini() <pytest.Config.getini> to access configuration values instead.

    See config-inicfg for more details.

  • #14004: Passing baseid to ~pytest.FixtureDef or nodeid strings to fixture registration APIs is now deprecated. These are internal pytest APIs that are used by some plugins.

Changelog

Sourced from iniconfig's changelog.

2.3.1

  • fix quadratic parse time for values with many continuation lines (#78, regarding #77)
  • strip a leading UTF-8 BOM when reading INI files, which previously raised ParseError (#76)
  • internal: iniconfig._parse.ParsedLine.value is now a list of lines

2.3.0

  • add IniConfig.parse() classmethod with strip_inline_comments parameter (fixes #55)
    • by default (strip_inline_comments=True), inline comments are properly stripped from values
    • set strip_inline_comments=False to preserve old behavior if needed
  • IniConfig() constructor maintains backward compatibility (does not strip inline comments)
  • users should migrate to IniConfig.parse() for correct comment handling
  • add strip_section_whitespace parameter to IniConfig.parse() (regarding #4)
    • opt-in parameter to strip Unicode whitespace from section names
    • when True, strips Unicode whitespace (U+00A0, U+2000, U+3000, etc.) from section names
    • when False (default), preserves existing behavior for backward compatibility
  • clarify Unicode whitespace handling (regarding #4)
    • since iniconfig 2.0.0 (Python 3 only), all strings are Unicode by default
    • Python 3's str.strip() has handled Unicode whitespace since Python 3.0 (2008)
    • iniconfig automatically benefits from this in all supported versions (Python >= 3.10)
    • key names and values have Unicode whitespace properly stripped using Python's built-in methods

2.2.0

  • drop Python 3.8 and 3.9 support (now requires Python >= 3.10)
  • add Python 3.14 classifier
  • migrate from hatchling to setuptools 77 with setuptools_scm
  • adopt PEP 639 license specifiers and PEP 740 build attestations
  • migrate from black + pyupgrade to ruff
  • migrate CI to uv and unified test workflow
  • automate GitHub releases and PyPI publishing via Trusted Publishing
  • include tests in sdist
  • modernize code for Python 3.10+ (remove future annotations, TYPE_CHECKING guards)
  • rename _ParsedLine to ParsedLine

2.1.0

  • fix artifact building - pin minimal version of hatch
  • drop eol python 3.8
  • add python 3.12 and 3.13

  • Raise RuntimeError when iOS cannot resolve the home directory, rather than returning paths rooted at a literal ~. #624 by @XXXXXQ-0206 and @gaborbernat.
  • Keep user directory strings, paths and iterators consistent inside isolated_dirs when Unix root enables use_site_for_root. Restore root redirection when the context exits. #625 by @AryanRG and @gaborbernat.
  • Raise RuntimeError when the Windows Projects directory cannot resolve the home directory, rather than returning a path rooted at a literal ~. #627 by @XXXXXQ-0206.

.. _release-4-14-0:

4.14.0 (2026-10-28)

.. _release-4-14-0-added:

Added

  • Accept a keyword-only ensure_exists in the module-level media directory functions, such as :func:~platformdirs.user_documents_path, to create a directory set through XDG_*_DIR or user-dirs.dirs (:pr:656) by :user:darrenhuai and :user:gaborbernat.

.. _release-4-14-0-fixed:

Fixed

  • Return the media and fonts directories under root's home for root with use_site_for_root, ignoring the invoking user's XDG_*_DIR, user-dirs.dirs and XDG_DATA_HOME, and create no inherited media directory under ensure_exists (:pr:661) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Raise ValueError from site_data_dir and site_config_dir under multipath=True when appname or version contains os.pathsep, rather than returning a string that splits into a directory outside the site base (:pr:662) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Parse an unquoted user-dirs.dirs value with a long run of blanks in linear time, rather than in time quadratic in the run's length on every Unix media directory lookup (:pr:663) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Treat a relative HOME as unset on Unix, macOS and iOS, taking the home from the password database or raising RuntimeError, rather than resolving user directories against the working directory (:pr:664) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Refuse a symlink as XDG_RUNTIME_DIR in :func:~platformdirs.user_runtime_dir when the value ends with / or /., which made the check follow the link (:pr:665) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Redirect user_*_dir calls with use_site_for_root=True when the effective uid is 0, so a setuid-root process gets the site directories, and name and check the runtime directory by the effective uid (:pr:666) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Apply the XDG_RUNTIME_DIR check of the Unix :func:~platformdirs.user_runtime_dir to the macOS one, so it no longer uses a directory that is a symlink, owned by another user or not mode 0700 (:pr:667) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Reject an XDG_RUNTIME_DIR below a parent that another user can replace, such as their own entry in /tmp, instead of creating the runtime directory through it (:pr:668) by :user:gaborbernat.
  • Stop accepting a Unix runtime directory that another user creates between the owner check and its use:
