Hi, I'm George Owoicho 👋

Backend Developer (Node.js/NestJS) | Computer Science Graduate | AltSchool Africa Alumnus

About Me

I build backend systems — APIs, databases, and the invisible infrastructure that keeps applications reliable and secure.

I hold a Computer Science degree and recently completed a year-long diploma in Backend Engineering at AltSchool Africa, where I specialized in Node.js. Before software, I spent years in Nigeria's local tech ecosystem repairing computers, teaching at a training school, and building websites for small businesses. That background taught me how to debug systematically, communicate with non-technical clients, and stay calm when systems fail.

Now I bring those instincts to backend engineering.

Currently Building

CribDirect — A real estate and property management platform connecting landlords, landowners, and tenants.

  • Stack: NestJS, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Redis (planned), Docker (planned)
  • Focus: Role-based access control, lease management, payment tracking, and production-ready architecture
  • Status: In active development. Learning and building in public.

I'm documenting the journey — schema decisions, authentication flows, caching strategies, and the bugs that taught me the most.

What I Build

  • RESTful APIs with Node.js, Express, and NestJS
  • Authentication systems with JWT, refresh tokens, and role-based access control
  • Database schemas with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB
  • Real-time features using WebSockets (Socket.io)
  • Secure applications with input validation, rate limiting, and security best practices
  • Tested code following Test-Driven Development

Tech Stack

Languages & Runtime Node.js • TypeScript • JavaScript • SQL

Frameworks & Libraries NestJS • Express • Socket.io • Joi • JWT • Jest

Databases PostgreSQL • MySQL • MongoDB

Currently Deepening Docker • Redis • BullMQ • System Design • CI/CD

My Learning in Public

I build in the open and document what I learn — bugs, breakthroughs, and architectural decisions. My repos show the full picture: finished projects, works-in-progress, and a learning journal where I track gaps I'm filling.

If you're a backend engineer who remembers what it felt like to build something real for the first time, I'd love to connect — especially if you have feedback on CribDirect.
