GitFig Community

Welcome to the GitFig community! This is the place for feature requests, bug reports, and discussions about GitFig, the Figma plugin that syncs design tokens with GitHub.

Examples

The examples/ folder has ready-to-use token files for getting started:

  • design-tokens-starter: a full base set (colors, palette, spacing, typography, radius, borders, elevation, motion, breakpoints), one file per collection
  • variable-modes: a single-mode Primitives collection, a light/dark Semantic collection that aliases into it, and color and text style files (the same files a new GitFig repository starts with)
  • multi-brand-themes: one brand theme per Git branch
  • tokens-studio-migration: before/after files for migrating from Tokens Studio

Each folder's README explains what the files contain and how to map them in GitFig. Copy the files into your repo (or fork this one) and Pull.

The Single Source of Taste

The single-source-of-taste/ folder is the home of the theory behind GitFig: design tokens as resolution policies over a multidimensional context space, the Design Token Context Ontology (12 categories, 93 dimensions), and the Single Source of Taste, a design-owned authority for the aesthetic judgments no test can certify. Start with the folder README for the argument in five steps and a reading order, then the Glossary. Pages 07 and 08 describe what a Figma-to-Git tool would need to carry taste, not just values, through the round-trip.

How GitFig Compares

Coming from Tokens Studio, the Figma Variables REST API, or hand-maintained JSON? See COMPARISON.md for a side-by-side comparison, including where each approach fits best.
