📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe change adds a ChangesHistogram repair flow
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The change repairs histogram ownership during deserialization but can silently drop null entries, potentially causing incorrect parametrization selection or out-of-bounds access; it also removes inference serialization without fully established concurrent-use guarantees. The PR is not merge-ready until null-entry handling and the runtime safety guarantees are addressed. Sequence Diagram(s)sequenceDiagram

Port ATLASSIM-7031 crash fix from Athena
mainTFCSGANXMLParameters::m_binningis astd::map<int, TH2D>—TH2Dobjects by value, inside an STL container, streamed to/from the parametrization ROOT file. ROOT decides whether aTObjectis heap-allocated by inspecting the memory around it; for objects living inside STL node allocations that heuristic intermittently returns a false positive, leavingkIsOnHeapset. When the parametrization file is closed, ROOT then deletes a histogram it does not own — crashing, or silently corrupting a histogram that resurfaces much later as a zombie.The fix is to make sure every such histogram (a) belongs to no
TDirectoryand (b) does not claim to be on the heap — both at creation time and again immediately after being read back.Changes

This is the hook that makes everything else run.ReadObjectAnycan return null; the pre-existing code pushed that null into the chain. Now guarded (Athena's Coverity fix).Print()andfillEnergy()are removed — they existed only to survive the corruption.fillEnergymutex is removed. It was added as a guess at ATLASSIM-7031 and dropped upstream once the real cause was found. Verified re-entrant for this library before removing:GetNetworkOutputstakes randomness from the per-eventsimulstate.randomEngine()and builds all inputs as locals;TFCSONNXHandler::computeTemplatekeeps every tensor and buffer local and reads only members that are const aftersetupNet(), withOrt::Session::Rundocumented thread-safe; both LWTNNcompute()paths areconstover a stateless graph; andGetNetAll/Low/High()do no lazy construction. Them_mutexmember is retained, as upstream does.Deviations from the Athena original
1.
MarkTObjectAsNotOnHeapon the read path, notResetBit.Athena uses the real API at creation time but writes
h.ResetBit(TObject::kIsOnHeap)infixHists(), which is a no-op —ResetBitmasks againstkBitMask(0x00ffffff) whilekIsOnHeapis0x01000000. Demonstrated against ROOT 6.40:This PR calls
MarkTObjectAsNotOnHeapon both paths. Athena can call it unguarded because it builds against a single ROOT; this library cannot. The symbol exists only in ROOT >= 6.40 — the unguarded call was compiled against every ROOT this project targets and fails on all of them below 6.40:error: 'MarkTObjectAsNotOnHeap' is not a member of 'ROOT::Internal'test_lcgLCG_106test_lcgLCG_107aSo the call is wrapped in a file-local
markNotOnHeap()helper that holds the singleROOT_VERSION_CODE >= ROOT_VERSION(6, 40, 0)guard, keeping both call sites clean. The ROOT floor stays at 6.28 and every CI job keeps building.Below 6.40 the flag cannot be cleared at all, and
SetDirectory(nullptr)is what prevents the delete — the close-time delete only walks the directory's own list, so a detached histogram is safe with the bit still set. Confirmed under ASan:That is also what carries Athena's read path today, given their
ResetBitis inert.2. The slice's histograms are fixed too.
TFCSEnergyAndHitGANV2::m_sliceis persistified, andTFCSGANEtaSliceholds its ownTFCSGANXMLParameters m_param— so a read-back GAN object carries two copies of the binning histograms. Athena fixes only the outer one.TFCSGANEtaSlice::fixHists()is added and called from the GAN's override so both copies are treated.Summary by CodeRabbit
