Summary

Bumps the dev container dependencies, the LCG test matrix and the key4hep release, all of which had drifted well behind current versions. The container pins are aligned with the stack Athena main builds against today: LCG_110_ATLAS_4 + atlasexternals 2.1.86.

Dev container dependencies

Applied identically to docker/alma10/Dockerfile and docker/ubuntu24/Dockerfile:

Dependency Before After Source
ROOT 6-30-06 6-40-02 Athena main & LCG_110
onnxruntime 1.24.4 1.26.0 Athena main
lwtnn 2.13 2.14.1 Athena main
CLHEP 2_4_7_1 2_4_7_2 LCG_110
CMake 3.29.2 3.30.6 LCG_110
Geant4 11.2.1 11.4.1 LCG_110
HDF5 1.14.6 unchanged already matches both

Geant4 deliberately does not follow Athena main. Athena builds the ATLAS fork geant4-v10.6.3.15 (Geant4 10.6.p03 + patches); following it would be a downgrade to this repo's find_package(Geant4 10.6) floor. LCG_110's 11.4.1 is used instead. (11.4.2 exists upstream if we'd rather track the newest patch.)

LCG test matrix

LCG_106, LCG_107a → LCG_108, LCG_110, on the same x86_64-el9-gcc13-opt platform (present in both views).

LCG_109 and LCG_109a are skipped on purpose. rootcling from ROOT 6.38 rejects fmt 10.2.1's consteval basic_format_string while parsing include/FastCaloSim/Geometry/Cell.h, so dictionary generation fails with ~6 call to consteval function ... is not a constant expression errors. It's an upstream fmt/cling pairing problem, not something in this repo — LCG_110 escapes it by shipping fmt 12.1.0, and LCG_108 predates it. That makes LCG_108 the newest working pre-110 view.

key4hep

  • Release 2025-01-28 → 2026-04-08 (latest on /cvmfs/sw.hsf.org/key4hep/releases)
  • LWTNN_ROOT moved from LCG_106/x86_64-el9-gcc13-opt to LCG_110/x86_64-el9-gcc14-opt

key4hep still ships no lwtnn, so the -Dlwtnn_ROOT override stays necessary; it now matches key4hep 2026-04-08's gcc 14.2.0 toolchain instead of a 2024-era gcc13 view.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The pull request updates dependency versions in the AlmaLinux 10 and Ubuntu 24 Docker images. It updates the LCG and key4hep CI environments and installs Python test dependencies from a committed requirements file.

Changes

Version updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Container dependency versions
docker/alma10/Dockerfile, docker/ubuntu24/Dockerfile
The Docker images update CMake, ROOT, Geant4, ONNX Runtime, lwtnn, and CLHEP versions. Build commands remain unchanged.
CI test environments
.github/workflows/pipeline.yml, test/python/requirements.txt
The CI matrix uses LCG_108 and LCG_110. The key4hep matrix uses release 2026-04-08 and the LCG_110 gcc14 LWTNN_ROOT view. Both jobs install Python dependencies from the new requirements file instead of regenerating it with pipreqs.

Estimated code review effort: 1 (Trivial) | ~5 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 8435b

The LCG_110 test setup can fail during dependency installation because pygeosimplify==0.0.19 does not support Python 3.13. Update to a compatible release or use a Python 3.12 view before merging.
