Two scripts are provided — use whichever fits your platform:

Linux (bash) |
alice-fix.ps1 |

| 2 | Fixes the Alice1Path in DefaultEngine.ini so Madness Returns can find Alice 1 |
| 3 | Downloads and installs MadnessPatch |
| 4 | Downloads and installs VorpalFix |
| 5 | Sets the required Steam launch options in localconfig.vdf (Linux only) |
| 6–7 | Interactive preferences for both games |

Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope ProcessThis only applies to the current session and does not change your system's global policy.
The script prompts you to customise the most commonly changed settings in each patch. Press Enter at any prompt to keep the current value.

- Steam is closed automatically on Linux before any files are modified. If it cannot be closed gracefully you will be prompted to close it manually.
- The script is safe to re-run. If MadnessPatch or VorpalFix are already installed, you will be prompted before they are re-downloaded and applied.
- The Steam launch option
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winmm.dll=n,b" %command%is set automatically on Linux. This is required for the patches to load under Proton. It is not needed on Windows. - American McGee's Alice is launched from the main menu of Alice: Madness Returns once everything is set up.
