test(estchargecheck): warm shared cache, a bounded section pool, and named call timeouts - #398

…named call timeouts estchargecheck timed out at 1200 s on the macOS plain shard. Profile (one local run): 337 ripwire calls, ~154 of them a cold --no-cache parse of src/ or the repo root (1.3-6 s each, ~270 s of a 420 s run). - rw: the arms on src/, . and the repo root share one warm cache per (root, artifact class) in the run's temp dir instead of --no-cache. A warm read serves the same stdout and stderr bytes as a cold parse. Fault-injection arms keep --no-cache, and #7 now compares a cold run with a warm one. - rwcall: every call runs under a per-call budget (ESTCHARGE_CALL_TIMEOUT, default 300 s). A killed call prints its own FAIL TIMEOUT/ERROR line and fails the gate, so it is never judged as an answer. - Each section is now a function, and sections that share state run as one chain. Chains run on a pool (ESTCHARGE_JOBS, default min(4, cpus); 1 = serial roster order), heaviest first. Section output is replayed in roster order, so the PASS/FAIL lines and their order are unchanged. FOR_TASK, forest_of, KEPT_NOTE/FLOOR_NOTE and sigs_unpaid_twin moved unchanged into a shared block so the #11 sweep, #14 and #15 need not wait for #11. No assertion, expected value or arm changed. …s; budget RIPWIRE_BASE too Wrapping the sections in est_* functions turned #11 A9's nonsense query word into a body token of an indexed bash symbol (est_11_a7d), so forcalibfactscheck's zero-hit `--for` on the repo root scored 1 instead of 0 in whichever CI shard ran it. The word now lives once, at top level, in WEAK_QUERY, and new arm #11 A9b asserts the same query on the repo root does not find this gate. #13 now runs $RIPWIRE_BASE through rwcall_bin, the same per-call budget and TIMEOUT/ERROR accounting as $BIN (CodeRabbit, PR #398). Conflicts: test/estchargecheck.sh — main's redhat-et#398 restructured the gate into pooled section functions with a shared warm cache and per-call budgets; the lane rewrote its --for arms for the soft target on the pre-redhat-et#398 layout. This merge keeps redhat-et#398's file as is; the next commit ports the lane's arm changes onto that structure. test/regression.sh (union: + forsoftbudgetcheck); README.md, docs/EVALS.md, docs/LIMITS.md, present/deck5_ripwire_build.js (generated counts: main's side, regenerated at the train). 's pooled structure The lane rewrote its --for arms for the soft target (rule 4: the old byte-ceiling arms REPLACED by ST / NOLBL / SEC / RP / NX / HL, with the A7 twin, A7B, the sweep, the floor/next and C3 arms, A7R-1/-K, A7D-1/-2, redhat-et#15, redhat-et#18 rung zero and redhat-et#19 re-anchored as the lane signed them) on the pre-redhat-et#398 layout. They now sit in redhat-et#398's section functions: the call harness (rw/rwcall/rwcall_bin, per-call budgets, call_failures), the warm caches, the pool and its chains and the zero-hit sentinel fix are unchanged. The soft readers (soft_rows/soft_st with test/lib/softbudget.py's tail_size and upper_bound, rows_prefix, ctx_root) move to the shared definitions so every chain sees them; redhat-et#15 asks its own no-budget reference instead of reading another chain's capture. The lane's own runtime shortcuts (its cache variables and capture reuse) are superseded by redhat-et#398's harness and are not ported; KEPT_NOTE, FLOOR_NOTE and sigs_unpaid_twin lost their last reader with the lane's replacements and are removed. On the merged binary: 251 PASS / 0 FAIL (the lane's own count); on main's binary 35 soft-target arms go red. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

…argecheck sections quality-delta origin/main..HEAD gated on four rows that no single lane gates alone: symbolQueryJson's complexity and verbosity (attrib-multidef's definition table plus declined-sites' rows on top of it, each minor against its own base) and the verbosity of estchargecheck's est_11_sweep and est_18 (forbudget-soft's soft-target arms ported into redhat-et#398's section functions). The MCP definition-table block moves into symbolQueryDefTableJson (same calls, same order, same bytes); the sweep's one-pass judge and redhat-et#18's corpus writer move to the gate's shared helper scripts beside soft_st.py, unchanged. estchargecheck.shtimed out at its 1200 s budget on the macOS plain shard three times on 2026-10-13 (on PRs that do not touch it). This change makes the gate fast without changing any assertion. Same pattern as #394 (legendcoveragecheck) and #393 (cppqualcheck).Cause. About 154 of the gate's 337 ripwire calls re-parsed
src/or the repo root from scratch with--no-cache, roughly 89% of call time.Change (test/estchargecheck.sh only):
TIMEOUT/ERRORFAIL line instead of the whole gate dying at the shard limit.min(4, cpus)groups in parallel (ESTCHARGE_JOBSoverrides), and output is printed back in the original order.Evidence (macOS, busy 16 GB machine):
ESTCHARGE_JOBS=1. All 431 per-call answer files match base apart from temp-dir paths and one path-dependent index hash.gateexitcheck,manifestcheckpass;--quality-deltagates 0.Noted, not changed here: a cached
--forstill spends ~0.5 s in agitsubprocess on the main thread per call (githarden::gitResolvedConfigDirs); tracked separately.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
