mem::import now validates every section and every row before replace deletes anything: optional sections, when present, must be arrays, each row must be an object with the non-empty string key its section is stored under (id, sessionId, project or memoryId), and the access-log cap applies up front. merge and skip imports with a malformed section or row are refused up front too, instead of partially applied. Exports from mem::export import as before.

Today replace deletes all 20 scopes first. lessons: {} or accessLogs: [null] is then skipped and the import returns success: true with the data gone; profiles: "ab" or lessons: [null] throws after the deletes.

Fixes #1573

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Import validation now rejects malformed observation, session, memory, summary, profile, lesson, and access-log collections with descriptive, indexed errors.
    • Required identifiers must be non-empty strings, including observation IDs, session IDs, summary session IDs, profile projects, and access-log memory IDs.
    • Access-log imports exceeding 50,000 entries are rejected.
    • Failed imports preserve existing sessions, memories, lessons, and access logs instead of partially changing data.

…s the store

With strategy=replace the import deleted every existing scope before it
looked at accessLogs, and the other optional sections were never
type-checked. A malformed section wiped the store and then failed,
threw, or was skipped while the import reported success.

Check that every optional section is an array, and apply the access-log
cap, together with the existing checks before anything is deleted. The
checks run for every strategy, so merge and skip now refuse such an
import up front instead of applying part of it.

📝 Walkthrough

mem::import now validates optional collection shapes and required row identifiers before mutation. Replace imports reject malformed data without clearing existing records. Tests cover invalid sections, identifiers, observations, access-log limits, and preserved records.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title clearly and accurately describes the main change: validating malformed import sections and rows before a replace import deletes stored data. It is specific, concise, and relevant to the changeset.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

Issue #1573 requires malformed sections to be rejected before a replace import deletes stored data. The import path now validates optional section arrays, row objects, required non-empty string keys, observation rows, and the access-log limit before mutation. The supplied test summary covers malformed sections, malformed rows, and intact existing data. The validation applies to merge, replace, and skip strategies.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The production change is limited to import validation and early access-log limit checking. The added tests cover the validation and no-deletion behavior. These changes directly support Issue #1573 and the stated row-validation objective. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

@dmazhukov thanks, the section-shape checks work: the four new cases fail on main and pass here, and the full suite passes on this branch merged with current main.

One gap remains. A replace import still deletes the store and then fails when a section is an array but a row inside it is not an object. On this branch merged with main, a replace import of an otherwise valid export with any of these leaves the existing sessions, memories and lessons deleted:

  • lessons: [null], facets: [null], memories: [null]: the import throws TypeError: Cannot read properties of null after the delete loop
  • accessLogs: [null]: the import returns success: true with nothing restored

sessions: [null] and summaries: [null] are safe because they are read before the delete.

Please validate every row of every section the replace path reads (non-null object with the id field that section is keyed by) before anything is deleted, and add these four cases to the "leaves the store intact" test.

…letes the store

An array section passed the shape check even when a row in it was null or
lacked the field the section is keyed by. A replace import then deleted the
store and either threw on that row or skipped it and reported success.
Every row of every section is now checked for a non-empty string key
(id, sessionId, project or memoryId) before anything is deleted.

…h reads

The null-row cases alone pass with a guard that only rejects null, so add rows that lack their key or carry an empty one, including profiles keyed by project, summaries keyed by sessionId and an observation bucket.

Fixed as suggested in 9271c25, after merging current main. Every row of every section the import reads, observation buckets included, must now be an object with a non-empty string id (sessionId for summaries, project for profiles, memoryId for access logs), checked before anything is deleted. Your four [null] cases are in the "leaves the store intact" test; 383a1cf adds rows that lack their key or carry an empty one, so a null-only guard would fail them.

Left alone: an empty observation bucket key (observations: { "": [...] }) still imports, as on main.

…eletes the store

A present null section was treated as an omitted one, so a replace import of lessons: null cleared the stored lessons and reported success. mem::export never writes null for a section; only omitted sections stay valid.
