fix(firewall): mask the stock dac app and use conntrack in the boot restore - #894
Two fixes for pods that skipped the jailbreak steps or run older kernels (reported on a Pod 3).
Mask the stock dac app. A user's pod had the stock Eight Sleep app (dac.service, /home/dac/app) still enabled. It crashed on our Node 24 every 30 s (6,395+ restarts) because its pinned config 3.3.7 calls util.isRegExp, which Node 23 removed. The jailbreak steps (free-sleep INSTALLATION.md step 11, scripts/README.md) mask it, but nothing in install or update enforced that. sleepypod replaces this app and serves dac.sock itself, so the app must not run. If it ran successfully, it would take frank's socket. The crash is what kept this pod working.
dac.service is added as STOCK_APP_UNITS in telemetry-helpers, sp-maintenance and internet-control. It is masked by install, by sp-update and on every service start. Units that don't exist are skipped. The firmware-updates opt-in does not affect it.
internet-control status lists it.
frankenfirmware, capybara, burrow and swupdate-usb are still never touched.
Use conntrack in internet-control block. The boot restore was the only rule set using -m state. The installer's rules, the app's toggle and free-sleep all use -m conntrack. On a kernel without xt_state, the restore would stop before adding the DROP rule.
Test plan
vitest run for telemetryBlocking, maintenanceTelemetry, iptablesSavedChoice, spMaintenance lifecycle/contract, iptablesHelpers contract, updateDeploy: 169 passed
Unit-list sync tests updated (4 lists in the helpers, sp-maintenance and internet-control)
shellcheck -S warning and bash -n clean
Pod 5 (.88): a -m conntrack --ctstate ESTABLISHED,RELATED rule loads in a scratch chain; the new internet-control status shows dac.service masked
Deploy to .88 via sp-update; check sp-maintenance is a no-op for the already-masked dac and the firewall is restored after a reboot
Reporter's Pod 3: after updating, systemctl is-enabled dac → masked, no new restarts, sudo sp-internet-control status
Pick the snippet that matches your pod. Already-installed pods can't use the curl bootstraps below — sleepypod's egress firewall DROPs github.com, and the script that knows how to unblock WAN is the very file curl is trying to fetch. Use sp-update instead; it's on disk and opens WAN as its first step.

Walkthrough
The changes add dac.service to stock-service masking and reporting paths. They also change the IPv4 and IPv6 established-connection firewall match from state to conntrack, with corresponding test updates.
Changes: Stock DAC service handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Register, mask, and report the stock DAC service scripts/lib/telemetry-helpers, scripts/bin/sp-maintenance, scripts/internet-control, scripts/tests/telemetryBlocking.test.ts, tests/spMaintenance.lifecycle.test.ts, scripts/README.md
The stock DAC service is included in unit lists, masked by the telemetry helper and maintenance hook, and included in service reporting. Tests and setup documentation reflect these changes. The maintenance hook continues to include firmware-update units only when firmware updates are disallowed.
Firewall connection matching
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Use conntrack for established connections scripts/internet-control, scripts/tests/iptablesSavedChoice.test.ts
The IPv4 and IPv6 rules now match established and related connections with conntrack --ctstate. The saved-choice restore test checks the generated match.
sleepypod/core#856: Both changes address firewall restoration; this PR changes the established-connection match to conntrack.
sleepypod/core#881: This PR extends the stock-service masking flow added by PR #881 to include dac.service.
sleepypod/core#887: This PR adds dac.service to the unit list used by the first-update reconciliation masking path.
Merge Risk: Moderate · up to d441b
Updating a pod that still runs the stock dac app can leave the firmware disconnected from the replacement socket, so hardware commands may fail until the firmware is restarted. Add the same reconnect step that the installer and sp-restart use before merging. The firewall conntrack change itself looks sound.
