The existing dev-tool delivery #1772 fails because a historical dashboard proof manifest requires the live pyproject.toml to remain byte-identical, including Black/Ruff versions. The exact generated tool updates fail that check despite preserving the product configuration.

This adds a reviewed validation successor while leaving original archives/manifests unchanged. Historical pyproject/validator snapshots retain their original hashes; four product/replay files stay exactly bound. The new validator is separately hash-bound. Only exact Black/Ruff version values may vary in current project semantics; unrelated settings/dependencies, non-exact pins and unreviewed product/validator changes still fail. Main pyproject and all application code remain unchanged.

Refs #1773; prerequisite for existing generated #1772 and stranske/Workflows#1836. Generated branches remain Maint52/71-owned.

Tasks

  • Reproduce the actual generated pyproject failing the original check.
  • Preserve historical proof and add a reviewed successor for mutable infrastructure inputs.
  • Verify valid generated pins plus invalid/current-product/validator controls and live replay.

Acceptance Criteria

  • The authentic generated pyproject now passes the recovery check without changing historical archive/manifest bytes.
  • All four product/replay inputs stay strictly bound; validator changes require a reviewed successor hash.
  • Unrelated project/dependency changes, non-exact/wildcard pins and modified product/validator bytes fail.
  • Full dashboard evidence/replay/loader suite48PASS, including the actual ten RED/restored GREEN replay pairs; focused successor9PASS; Black/Ruff/diff checks pass.

Proof: docs/evidence/issue-1773-dev-tool-archive-bindings/, including actual generated-input RED/GREEN and provenance.

After implementation acceptance: guarded source merge, actual comparison, then existing source-owned Maint52/71 regeneration of #1772. Hosted CI/review and actual provider verdicts are still required; this PR does not close the generated delivery or campaign.

Hosted dependency check38825093631 found an undeclared packaging import. Removed that dependency and validated the bounded numeric release pins with stdlib only; sync_test_dependencies.py --verifyPASS, focused9PASS, full48PASS. No pyproject/lock or historical-proof edit.

Verification evidence selection

Validation evidence: https://github.com/stranske/Manager-Database/actions/runs/38828580903
This completed exact-final-head9f20f285abd0fb57ab14b306265048e11d95e134 Python CI runs the full live suite on3.12/3.13, including archive, provenance, replay and dependency-setup controls. The committed historical RED/GREEN remains intact; local focused9PASS is historical pre-fixture-correction validation, and final fixture-derived transcript includes the dependency-setup and dashboard suites. Prior comparison38829571123 is actual CONCERNS/CONCERNS due incomplete artifact/comment capture, not acceptance. All criteria remain required; no provider verdict is inferred from CI success.

📝 Walkthrough

The PR adds a successor evidence contract that permits exact Black and Ruff version-pin differences while checking other project settings and bound inputs. It adds project snapshots and provenance, historical archive validation, and tests for accepted configuration changes and altered inputs.

Changes: Dashboard evidence recovery

Layer / File(s) Summary
Bind project snapshots
docs/evidence/issue-1773-dev-tool-archive-bindings/README.md, current-bindings.json, generated-provenance.json, generated-pyproject.toml, historical-pyproject.toml

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to 01dbe

The retained project snapshot is consistent today. A provenance regression could go undetected, but this does not block merge if the missing assertion is accepted as follow-up.

Review exact head 01dbeb8 for linked source1773/existing generated1772. The original historical manifest/archive and exact old pyproject/validator snapshots remain byte-bound; four product/replay files remain strict. The successor separately binds the reviewed new validator; only exact Black/Ruff version values vary in current project semantics. Actual authenticated generated pyproject ORIGINAL RED1/repaired GREEN1; invalid project/dependency/non-exact pin/product/validator controls retained. Full47dashboard evidence/replay/loader tests pass including live ten RED/restored GREEN pairs. Read committed raw evidence/provenance and current full code; no edits, generated mutation or merge actions.

P2 Badge Bind the generated artifact to its provenance

When generated-pyproject.toml is replaced with any semantically equivalent file containing different exact Black/Ruff versions, this assertion still passes even if generated-provenance.json retains the old SHA-256, blob ID, and byte count. Because the provenance file is never read anywhere in the suite, the committed evidence can silently stop representing the authenticated generated head while all successor checks remain green; verify the retained file's exact bytes against its recorded provenance before performing the normalized comparison.

@codex review exact final head c50e0bb. The native P2 about generated provenance is fixed: the retained exact artifact byte length and SHA-256 must match its authenticated provenance before normalized comparison. Nine focused recovery checks pass; earlier full 48 tests passed. Please review the final change and provide finding disposition; do not implement or merge.

@codex review. Exact new head9f20f285 repairs the native CI hardcoded-version failure: negative fixture versions now derive from authenticated retained TOML, with the same unrelated-config/non-exact pin controls and exact provenance checks. Dependency-setup validator and full dashboard proof suite pass; original immutable archive remains intact. Please review full current head; no edits or merge actions.

openai

  • Model: gpt-5.6-terra
  • Verdict: CONCERNS
  • Confidence: 91%
  • Scores:
    • Correctness: 8.0/10
    • Completeness: 7.0/10
    • Quality: 8.0/10
    • Testing: 8.0/10
    • Risks: 8.0/10
  • Summary: The change is narrowly scoped and implements a reviewed successor contract: historical snapshots remain hash-bound to the original recovery manifest, the current validator is separately hash-bound, all non-mutable current inputs remain byte-bound, and only exact numeric Black/Ruff == pins are normalized before semantic comparison. The parser rejects ranges, wildcards, extras, markers, URLs, duplicates, and missing formatter requirements, while unrelated project/dependency changes are tested. The code is readable and uses only stdlib TOML/regex support as intended. Checked-in evidence includes original RED and successor GREEN logs plus a 48-pass dashboard-suite transcript. However, required external acceptance evidence/artifacts were unavailable for complete inspection, so completeness cannot be conclusively verified and the verdict must remain CONCERNS rather than PASS.
  • Concerns:
    • A PASS verdict is not possible because required acceptance evidence is unavailable: referenced workflow artifacts could not be completely retrieved or inspected. The checked-in logs support the claimed focused and full-suite outcomes, but cannot independently establish all required hosted/replay evidence.
    • The strict-binding negative test mutates only ui/dashboard.py and the validator. The implementation does hash-check the other bound product/replay inputs, but explicit negative controls for each of tests/test_dashboard_loader_failures.py, the replay driver, and tests/test_dashboard_read_failure_replay.py would better demonstrate the stated requirement that all four remain strictly bound.
    • The generated-pyproject acceptance test verifies provenance and semantic normalization of the retained generated snapshot, rather than running validate_review_recovery_current_inputs() against a temporary project root containing that generated file. The supplied GREEN transcript helps support the intended end-to-end behavior, but a live regression test would make the recovery claim more durable.

anthropic

  • Model: claude-sonnet-5-5
  • Verdict: CONCERNS
  • Confidence: 60%
  • Scores:
    • Correctness: 8.0/10
    • Completeness: 7.0/10
    • Quality: 7.0/10
    • Testing: 8.0/10
    • Risks: 7.0/10
  • Summary: The change adds a reviewed successor validation contract. Black/Ruff versions are normalized only when they are plain exact numeric pins; every other project and dependency setting must still match the historical pyproject snapshot. The four product/replay inputs stay hash-bound, and the validator is bound through current-bindings.json. Historical archives and manifests are untouched, the validator snapshot matches the old test file, and the generated pyproject has RED/GREEN logs plus provenance. Negative controls cover rename, a non-formatter version change, range, wildcard and extras pins, and changed product or validator bytes. The stdlib-only rewrite removes the undeclared packaging import, and the stdlib log shows 48 passed. The code looks correct. The verdict is CONCERNS only because the required acceptance evidence could not be fully retrieved and a few claimed counts cannot be confirmed from the retained logs.
  • Concerns:
    • The verifier context marks acceptance evidence as incomplete: workflow-artifact retrieval was unavailable, and one PR comment was truncated. A PASS cannot be returned while that evidence is unverifiable.
    • The acceptance criteria claim 'focused successor 9 PASS'. The retained fixture-derived-green.log shows 29 dots and no summary line, so the focused count cannot be confirmed from the committed logs.
    • The reviewed validator hash in current-bindings.json (0dae7c5d…) cannot be recomputed from the supplied diff. The test file hashes itself against that value, so any later edit to the test file needs a binding refresh. The README says the refresh was done, but I could not check it.
    • The PR text says the real generated pyproject failed the original check. generated-input-original-red.log does show that failure on pyproject.toml, matching the retained provenance hash, and the matching successor GREEN log passes. Whether the ten RED/restored GREEN replay pairs ran is only attested by the '48 passed' log, which includes the replay test.

Agreement

  • Verdict: CONCERNS (all providers)
  • Correctness: scores within 1 point (avg 8.0/10, range 8.0-8.0)
  • Completeness: scores within 1 point (avg 7.0/10, range 7.0-7.0)
