Zigbee Routers

Turn spare Zigbee coordinator dongles into dedicated mesh routers / repeaters with much better range than typical mains-powered Zigbee devices, thanks to their proper external antennas and +20 dBm radios.

Hardware

  • 3× SMLIGHT SLZB-07 USB dongle, Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 SoC, with +3 dB SMA antenna (bought on AliExpress 2026-01-29, €20.19 each — see docs/hardware.md for details)

Zigbee network

  • Coordinator stack: Zigbee2MQTT

Goal

  • Flash the SLZB-07 sticks with router firmware (instead of coordinator firmware)
  • Power them standalone from USB power adapters, placed where the mesh needs coverage
  • Document everything: what was bought, how to flash, how to update, how they behave in Z2M

Repo layout

Path Purpose
