⚡ Quickstart & Local Development

Prerequisites

• Node.js: v20.x or later
• npm: v10.x or later
• MongoDB: Local instance or free MongoDB Atlas Cluster

1. Clone Repository

git clone https://github.com/subhranshudash13-dotcom/Contribo.git
cd Contribo

2. Install Dependencies

npm install

3. Setup Environment Variables

Copy the example environment template:

cp .env.example .env

Open .env and fill in your values:

Security Note: Never commit .env or real API keys to version control. All secrets are strictly ignored by .gitignore.

4. Seed Database (Optional)

Seed default open-source programs and sample projects:

npm run db:setup

5. Run Development Server

npm run dev

Open http://localhost:3000 in your browser.

• Passwords are encrypted using constant-time scrypt hashing.
• API inputs are sanitized with sliding-window rate limiting.
• Strict Content Security Policies (CSP) and security headers are enforced across all routes.
