fix: wave 4 follow-ups (generation spend, clarification options, wait_loop args, residual order) - #254
Conversation
When a spend operation has a cost of zero, the previous implementation would incorrectly treat it as an unset or invalid value, causing the cost to be ignored or misrecorded. This change ensures that zero-cost spends are properly tracked and recorded in the transcript, maintaining accurate cost accounting for all operations regardless of their cost value. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
…ccessor generation Add a test that verifies rows retained from a parent generation in a successor generation are not counted twice in the spend calculation. The test creates a session with one assistant turn, truncates into the next generation, and asserts that the input token count remains unchanged. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Add an assertion to verify that both generations are correctly identified as root transcripts of the thread before testing spend behavior, ensuring the test validates the expected state before measuring token counting. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
The forwarder now checks if the queue is empty before attempting to dequeue, preventing a panic when no items are available. This ensures graceful handling of idle states in the run queue. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
Adds a test case to verify that the `AskClarificationTool` omits the options line when given an empty array or an array containing only non-string values or blank strings. Also reformats an existing assertion in the wait test for consistency. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly
… import The wait_tick test now parses the JSON payload to verify that the repeat arguments object exists and that loop_key is absent, replacing a fragile string check that could miss a null key. The spend test removes an unused `TranscriptHistory` import to keep the codebase clean. Auto-committed-on: dragonfly

403-410: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low valueResidual ordering depends on spawned-task scheduling, but the change is sound for its stated goal.
Each guard spawns one task that pushes its items in order. A later guard's task can run before an earlier guard's task, because spawned tasks are unordered. The "successive drops each add theirs behind the last" comment holds only if the tasks run in spawn order. On a multi-thread runtime this is not guaranteed.
The impact is narrow. Items from one guard keep their relative order. Only the order between two separate guards' residuals can swap. This matches the PR goal in the common case, so no change is required. Consider softening the comment so it does not promise cross-guard ordering.

Keep residual messages ahead of later queued input
When a steer arrives after the forwarder delivered an earlier message but before the guard is dropped, that newer steer remains in the queue while the earlier one is recovered from the handle. Appending the residual with push places it behind the newer steer, so the next turn observes the messages in reverse order; residuals from a single guard need to be restored ahead of already-queued items while separately preserving order across successive guard drops.

Deduplicate request IDs only within one generation chain
When a thread has multiple independent root transcripts—such as legacy cold-boot roots or roots scoped to different agents—and two roots reuse the same opaque request_id, this set is shared across both files and file_spend drops every usage row with that ID from the later root. Request IDs are not defined as globally unique across transcript files, so cross-generation deduplication must be scoped using generation parentage or retained-row identity rather than all roots returned for the thread.

Add a test for the requeue ordering change
The forwarder now appends requeued items via push instead of prepending them in batches via requeue_front. This is a deliberate behavioural change (the comment says "Appended, not prepended"), but no test asserts the new ordering or validates that the change does not regress. The repository rules require tests with every behaviour change. Without a test, a future refactor could silently revert to prepending.
