Their usage is not needed, they were presumably and very likely added and left during the initial project creation (i.e.,
quarkus create ..., commit name also supports this).They are not needed during deployment to OS thanks to S2I (i.e., https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/3.11/html/using_images/source-to-image-s2i)
