Technical Documentation Portfolio

Technical documentation portfolio featuring SOPs, knowledge base articles, troubleshooting guides, escalation workflows, and security-aware support processes.

🎯 Purpose

Strong technical documentation turns knowledge into repeatable processes.

This repository demonstrates my approach to documenting technical issues and operational workflows so that users, support teams, and cross-functional stakeholders can quickly understand a problem, take appropriate action, and escalate when necessary.

🧰 Documentation Areas

This portfolio focuses on:

  • Knowledge base articles
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Troubleshooting guides
  • Technical support workflows
  • Incident and escalation procedures
  • Access and account support
  • Process documentation
  • User-facing instructions
  • Internal support documentation

📝 Featured Example

Knowledge Base: User Unable to Access Account

Issue

A user reports that they are unable to access their account or application.

Objective

Identify common access issues, restore access when appropriate, and escalate potential security or system-related incidents.

1. Verify the User

Before making account changes:

  • Follow approved identity verification procedures
  • Confirm the correct user account
  • Never request or document the user's password
  • Follow organizational security and privacy requirements

2. Identify the Access Problem

Determine what the user is experiencing:

  • Incorrect username or password
  • Locked account
  • Expired password
  • Multi-factor authentication failure
  • Missing permissions
  • Application error
  • Network or connectivity issue
  • Service outage

Document the exact error message when available.

3. Perform Initial Troubleshooting

Depending on the issue and organizational policy:

  • Confirm the correct login URL or application
  • Verify username formatting
  • Check account status
  • Review authorized access or permissions
  • Confirm MFA enrollment and authentication method
  • Check for known outages or service disruptions
  • Have the user retry after approved troubleshooting steps

4. Determine Whether Escalation Is Required

Escalate when:

  • Unauthorized access is suspected
  • Repeated authentication failures indicate potential security concerns
  • Required permissions cannot be modified by the current support tier
  • A system-wide outage or application defect is suspected
  • Troubleshooting does not resolve the issue

5. Document the Resolution

The support record should include:

  • User-reported issue
  • Relevant error messages
  • Verification completed
  • Troubleshooting performed
  • Actions taken
  • Resolution or escalation
  • Assigned team if escalated

Avoid documenting passwords, authentication codes, or unnecessary sensitive information.

🔐 Security-Aware Documentation

My CompTIA Security+ training and certification informs how I approach technical documentation, particularly around:

  • Identity and access management
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Least privilege
  • Data protection
  • Incident escalation
  • Security-conscious troubleshooting
  • Documentation integrity

Technical support should solve the user's immediate problem without creating a new security risk.
