feat(catalog): list Sia hostd storage nodes - #422
Conversation
Add services/storage/sia-hostd.yml: the Sia Foundation's official host implementation. Sia is a decentralized storage marketplace operating since 2015; hostd is its official, actively maintained Go host (MIT, latest release v2.11.0 2026-09-21) with an official Docker image (ghcr.io/siafoundation/hostd) and an official Docker compose guide. Why this entry: - storage currently lists only Storj; Sia is the other long-running permissionless storage network (no signup, DC/VPS hosts are common). - wallet seed is user-supplied and funds live in the node's own wallet (payout.model: external, address_source: app), consistent with the payout registry rules - no private keys in the YAML. - collector starts as manual: hostd exposes a local REST API (port 9980, BasicAuth) with /api/wallet and /api/settings, which a future SiaCollector can read the same way the Storj collector reads the local storagenode API. Left to a follow-up app-side PR, per the collectors-are-code rule. Deployment shape mirrors the Storj entry: critical volumes for consensus/host DB (/data) and renter data (/storage), RHP4/consensus ports published (9981 TCP, 9984 TCP+UDP per Sia's official compose guide), dashboard on 9980 with its loopback-bind caveat documented, cpu_shares 4096 because the network dials the node back. health_signals is intentionally minimal pending a live log capture - only the generic "failed to" line is asserted, with its caveat documented in the entry. Verified live on a Debian VPS: image pulls on linux/amd64, hostd version reports v2.11.0, the node starts with env-only config, syncs mainnet, and serves /api/state, /api/wallet and /api/settings. Guide page added (docs/guides/sia-hostd.md); README lists, docs nav and the guides index are regenerated by the existing scripts; the hand-maintained counts move from 39 active/50 catalogued to 40 active/52 catalogued.

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughCashPilot adds Sia hostd as an active Docker-managed storage service. The change includes its deployment configuration and setup guide, adds the guide to Storage navigation, and updates service listings and totals. ChangesSia hostd
Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Change: Feature Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to The new Sia hostd service exposes its password-protected admin dashboard on all network interfaces of the host, so a machine with a public address can reach it from the internet unless a firewall blocks the port. Restricting the binding to loopback requires deployment support that does not exist yet. One documentation count is also inconsistent. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)✨ Finishing Touches🧪 Generate unit tests (beta)

- Line 96: Update the service-count sentence in the documentation to resolve the
mismatch between 52 catalogued and 40 active services: correct the inactive
count to 12 or clarify that the discontinued-services list includes only the 11
services that died or broke. Preserve the existing link to Discontinued
services.
Review comments at @services/storage/sia-hostd.yml:
- Around line 44-49: The direct deployment port parser cannot handle host-IP
bindings, so changing only the service mapping would break deployment. Update
the deployment port model and parser in app/main.py to preserve host IPs, then
change the Sia service mapping and guide to bind port 9980 to localhost.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Correct the inactive-service count.
With 52 catalogued services and 40 active services, 12 are not active, not 11. Correct the count or narrow the sentence to the statuses it intends to include.

- Bind the dashboard to 127.0.0.1 (its API can spend the wallet), now that the catalog supports a host address on a port (GeiserX#423). - 9981 is Sia consensus, not RHP4. - Drop the "failed to" health signal: a fresh, healthy node logs "failed to get certificate for RHP4 net address" while it syncs. - mem_limit 4g: hostd 2.11.0 reached 1.9 GiB within four minutes of sync. - State that the wallet needs Siacoin before the node can earn, use Sia's recommended prices for the estimate, drop the unsourced /24 claim. - Record that there is no referral programme for hosts.
