docs(catalog): flag Storj Labs Chapter 11 bankruptcy risk in storj.yml - #427
Conversation
Storj Labs filed Chapter 11 on 2026-07-26 (case 5:26-bk-00512); STORJ was delisted by Binance and suspended by Coinbase in Sep 2026. The catalog still called Storj "one of the most mature and truly passive storage income services" with no risk note — misleading for anyone committing a 6-12 month node fill + ~9 month escrow to a company in active restructuring. Replace the promotional line with a sourced CAUTION note. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

📝 Walkthrough
Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The caution improves the service description, but the guide still gives outdated earnings information, and two statements in the caution could mislead readers about holdbacks and fill time. These are limited documentation issues with straightforward fixes, so the merge risk is low. Pre-merge checks |

Review comments at @services/storage/storj.yml:
- Line 20: Update the Storj escrow description to say it withholds portions of
earnings during the first nine months, rather than implying that all earnings
from nine months are held; leave the surrounding explanation unchanged.
- Line 20: Update the Storj description to state that node fill time varies with
customer demand and is not guaranteed, rather than presenting 6–12 months as a
general fact; preserve the existing escrow information.
- Around line 15-23: Update the Storj guide’s description and payout figures to
reflect the restructuring risk described in the Storj configuration and the
current rates: $1.35/TB stored and $1/TB for egress and audit/repair. Replace
the “mature and truly passive” characterization and outdated rates without
adding unsupported claims.

…6 payout rates Storj's own forum says earnings from before the 26 July filing are frozen by the court, not that payouts stopped, and that new nodes withhold 75%, 50% and 25% of earnings in months 1 to 9 rather than nine months of pay. Coinbase suspended trading rather than delisting. The 6 to 12 month fill time had no source. Storage pay is $1.35/TB and egress and audit/repair $1/TB since 1 September 2026; the guide now matches the catalog.

Thanks @Mluo2011 for the heads-up, I hadn't caught the Chapter 11 filing. It's merged and shipped in v1.41.2. I pushed one follow-up commit on top before merging. Storj's own forum says payouts to active nodes continue, and only earnings from before the 26 July filing are frozen pending the court, so the note says that now. Two smaller fixes: Coinbase suspended trading rather than delisting, and the escrow is a staged holdback (75%, 50%, 25% over months 1 to 9), not nine months of pay. While I was in there I also updated the payout rates Storj cut on 1 September ($1.35/TB stored, $1/TB egress and audit/repair) and brought the guide in line with the catalog. |
…a fix never lands on the web app alone (#429) PRs like #427 and #428 change the catalog, the deploy validation or a guide, and CashPilot-Desktop carries all three in its own code and its vendored copy of services/. Nothing here said so, and both fixes shipped on the web app alone. CLAUDE.md now names what Desktop mirrors and what each kind of change requires over there, in the same session; the PR template gets one checklist line.
Adds a sourced risk note to
services/storage/storj.ymland removes the now-misleading "one of the most mature and truly passive storage income services" line. Why
Storj Labs filed for Chapter 11 in the us and payouts has stopped and major exchanges has delisted the tolken because it droped over 90% from its peak.
