211-211: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 🏗️ Heavy liftAdd a genuine two-rank COLUMN test for float32 logits.
column_gatherusesMapping()(tp_size=1), and the LLM API test usesLLM’s defaulttensor_parallel_size=1. These tests cover the float32 GEMM and API-level logits, but not a multi-rank all-gather; a gathered-dtype or vocabulary-order regression can go undetected. The spec-decoding test follows a separate weight-slice branch. Add a two-rank COLUMN test undertests/unittest/_torch/multi_gputhat compares gathered float32 logits with an unsharded reference, and run it in the 2-GPUl0_dgx_h100stage.🤖 Prompt for AI Agents

- Line 56: Update the model dtype lookup in this test to check `dtype` before
`torch_dtype`, matching the loader’s precedence. Skip missing values and
`"auto"`, normalize a concrete dtype name with `str_dtype_to_torch`, and fail
clearly if neither key provides a concrete dtype before constructing `LLM`.

Dev Engineer Review
TorchLlmArgs.lm_head_output_dtypeadds"float32"while keeping"auto"as the default. The loader maps"float32"totorch.float32, and model construction passes that dtype to both LM-head paths.LMHeadrejects the option for quantized and ROW tensor-parallel heads. Verify that"auto"preserves existing behavior and that unsupported configurations fail clearly. The golden manifest also addssparse_attention_config.gvr_deterministic_topk; confirm that entry is intentional. Review findings and test execution results were not supplied.QA Engineer Review
Three test files add numerical and error-path coverage, an LLM API test, and a two-GPU tensor-parallel test. The H100 CI list includes the module and LLM API tests. No test-list entry was found for the tensor-parallel test. Coverage verdict: needs follow-up to confirm how that test is run in CI. Test execution results were not supplied.
Per-File QA Perspective

Verify the API stability check.Description
The LM head GEMM writes logits in the model dtype (bf16/fp16);
LogitsProcessoronly upcasts them to float32 afterwards. Every logit and logprob the PyTorch backend returns therefore carries bf16 rounding. This PR supports fp32 lm head logits to reduce training/inference mismatch for post training stage.This PR adds a prototype
TorchLlmArgs.lm_head_dtype("auto"|"float32", default"auto"):Measured on GB200, Qwen3-8B , 64 GSM8K questions, 7,794 response positions, against a float64 reference computed from the same bf16 hidden states and weights:
auto(bf16 logits)float32The bf16 logits are bit-identical to the float32 logits rounded to bf16 (100% of 1.18e9 entries), i.e. the change removes exactly the final rounding.
LM head + float32 upcast, ms per call,
[M, 4096] x [4096, 151936]on one GB200:auto(bf16 GEMM +.float())float32(fp32-output GEMM)The float32 path is not slower because it drops the separate upcast.
End to end in RL: NeMo-RL GRPO with a Megatron trainer (
policy.megatron_cfg.fp32_lm_head) and colocated TRT-LLM generation with this change (trtllm_kwargs.lm_head_dtype), Qwen3-8B on GSM8K, one 4-GPU GB200 node, 20 steps x 256 samples (about 1.45M generated tokens per arm). Rollout logprobs are compared with the trainer's recomputed logprobs:token_mult_prob_error, mean of 20 stepsgen_kl_errorWith the fp32 head on both sides the excess of
token_mult_prob_errorover 1 halves and the generation KL drops by 77%. With it on the trainer side only, the mean improves slightly but more tokens drift (the p90 |Δlogprob| doubles), so the trainer and the rollout engine should switch together.Test Coverage
