Companion to OpenMouse-Project/mouse-protocol#243, which adds the Amkette XS driver (UI family amkette-xs).

Changes

  • Traits: give the amkette-xs family the advanced section and auto sleep, so the sleep card shows the driver's 1–15 minute options.
  • Device images: map the "XS Flow 2 Speed" model name to amkette-xs-flow-2-speed.png. The nameless "XS series" fallback and the shared 0x04F3 IDs keep the placeholder. The artwork itself is not uploaded yet.
  • Bundle size: raise the JS budget from 2,800,000 to 2,820,000 bytes for the new driver and codec, measured at +18,522 bytes against mouse-protocol main.

Merge order

Merge after mouse-protocol#243 is released and @openmouse/protocol is bumped from 0.45.1. Nothing here takes effect until then. The budget raise is only needed once the package includes the new driver.

Checks

Against a local build of mouse-protocol#243: npm run build, npm test (401 tests) and npm run size pass. No new UI strings, so no locale changes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added Amkette XS Flow 2 Speed support, including access to advanced sleep settings.
    • Added device artwork for the XS Flow 2 Speed.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Device artwork now resolves correctly for the XS Flow 2 Speed even when it shares a hardware ID with other devices. Generic or conflicting device names continue to display the unknown-device image.

Note

Add Amkette XS series device support

  • Adds an Amkette XS entry to the device.BY_FAMILY trait registry in traits.ts with advanced-settings and sleep traits, using whole-minute auto-sleep options
  • Adds a case-insensitive model-name match for the Amkette XS Flow 2 Speed in computeDeviceImageFilename in device-images.ts, so its artwork resolves even with shared or missing identifiers
  • Raises BUDGET_BYTES in check-bundle-size.ts by 20,000 bytes to a 3.22 MB threshold to cover the new driver code
  • Adds tests in device-images.test.ts for the new image mapping and to guard against selecting the Amkette image from shared identifiers alone
  • Behavioral Change: generic XS model names still fall through to the unknown-device placeholder

Macroscope summarized 596be90.

Walkthrough

The changes add advanced-section and sleep traits for the Amkette XS family, map the XS Flow 2 Speed display name to its artwork, add image-resolution tests, and increase the JavaScript bundle-size budget.

Changes: Amkette XS support

Layer / File(s) Summary
Device traits and bundle budget
src/device/traits.ts, build/check-bundle-size.ts
The amkette-xs family receives the advancedSection and sleep traits. The JavaScript bundle-size budget increases to 3,220,000 bytes.
Device image matching
src/shared/device-images.ts, src/shared/device-images.test.ts
The “XS Flow 2 Speed” display name resolves to its artwork. Tests cover both shared device IDs, no device data, and generic or conflicting names.

Before / after behavior

  • observed — Modified behavior in src/device/traits.ts: Added a comment describing Amkette XS auto-sleep handling and mapped amkette-xs to the advanced section and sleep traits.
  • observed — Modified behavior in src/shared/device-images.test.ts: Added assertions that XS Flow 2 Speed resolves to its artwork by name with either shared ID (0x04f3:0x026e or 0x04f3:0x026d) or no device. With ID 0x04f3:0x026e, generic XS series and conflicting Kyu Pro MX1 names are expected to use the unknown-device placeholder.
  • observed — Modified behavior in src/shared/device-images.ts: Added a display-name match for “XS Flow 2 Speed” that returns amkette-xs-flow-2-speed.png; the accompanying comments distinguish the reported model name from the generic “XS series” fallback, which this rule does not match.
  • observed — Modified behavior in build/check-bundle-size.ts: The .js budget changed from 3,200,000 to 3,220,000 bytes. The updated comment attributes the increase to the Amkette XS driver and shared 0x04F3 codec, measured at 18,624 bytes against mouse-protocol main.

Explanation

The title "feat(devices): support the Amkette XS series" matches the main change. The PR adds UI support for the Amkette XS driver: the amkette-xs family gets the advanced section and auto sleep traits, and "XS Flow 2 Speed" maps to its artwork. The title names the device family and the feature type. It does not mention the bundle budget change or the artwork mapping, but those are secondary. The raw summary and objectives agree on the scope.

Make the Amkette driver available before registering amkette-xs.

createSupportedClient delegates to registryCreateSupportedClient(device) and only adds Razer-specific Bridge fallbacks. @openmouse/protocol@0.45.1 contains no Amkette driver or registry entry. Therefore an Amkette XS device cannot produce status.ui?.family === "amkette-xs" through the reachable client path. The new trait entry never applies, and the device cannot receive the promised status, advanced controls, sleep card, or device view artwork.

Update the declared and locked protocol dependency to a release that includes and registers the Amkette driver, or add that driver before this trait mapping. The correction belongs at the protocol/client-registration boundary, not in BY_FAMILY.

Expected: this PR depends on OpenMouse-Project/mouse-protocol#243. It should merge after that is released and @openmouse/protocol is bumped from 0.45.1; until then the trait and image mapping have no effect. I'll bump the dependency here once a release includes the driver, or it can go with the usual chore(protocol): bump commit.

Companion to the @openmouse/protocol change that adds the Amkette XS driver
(UI family "amkette-xs").

- traits: give the amkette-xs family the advanced section and auto sleep, so
the sleep card shows the driver's 1-15 minute options.
- device images: map the "XS Flow 2 Speed" model name to
amkette-xs-flow-2-speed.png; the nameless "XS series" fallback and the shared
0x04F3 ids keep the placeholder. The artwork itself is not uploaded yet.
- bundle size: raise the JS budget from 3,200,000 to 3,220,000 bytes for the
new driver and codec, measured at +18,624 bytes.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This feature adds Amkette XS UI traits and model artwork, but the current protocol dependency does not yet register the Amkette driver, leaving the new family mapping unreachable until a separate release and dependency update. The unresolved integration concern and external runtime dependency make this more than a self-contained local change.
