Summary

  • Opt-in only — nothing is sent until secrets/telemetry.json exists with "enabled": true.
  • Firebase / GA4: web SDK for UI errors + failed research toasts; Python Measurement Protocol for daily_research step failures (via audit log hook).
  • Support: make support-bundle and UI Copy debug report (when telemetry enabled) — redacted JSON (install_id, audit tail, research-run summary). No tracks, cookies, or resumes.
  • Setup guide: docs/telemetry/FIREBASE_SETUP.md

Crashlytics: not used (native-focused); Analytics custom events + support bundle cover this stack.

Configure (maintainer)

  1. Create Firebase project + Web app + GA4 API secret (see doc).
  2. cp examples/telemetry.firebase.json secrets/telemetry.json → fill values, enabled: true.
  3. make telemetry-doctor && make stop && make ui

Test plan

  • pytest tests/test_telemetry.py
  • make support-bundle / make telemetry-doctor with no config
  • After Firebase setup: GA4 DebugView shows research_failed_ui on failed ingestion
  • Copy debug report button visible only when telemetry enabled
