What and why

A foundational repair of this repo's CI/CD, driven by a deep recon of every workflow, the estate's own tooling, and the live check board. The load-bearing findings:

  1. Three pinned hyperpolymath/standards commits no longer exist (8f31a5a…, cc58c0c…, 8750b94… → GitHub API 422). Governance, Hypatia and Scorecard have been startup_failure with zero jobs. All standards callers now pin one vetted commit (8e48b1c…, 2026-10-24); panic-attack is pinned in lockstep (b553083…) across security-scan + bridge-gate + the new deep-recon lane. This supersedes chore(deps): bump hyperpolymath/panic-attack/.github/workflows/scan-and-report.yml from 8c2f1989a23521974f9f673bf73a6f39d68f3a4e to 6933654592debdf0ed9157843a3771c252a63574 in the actions group #312 (same reusable, newer commit, lock included).
  2. actions.lock regenerated and verified against all three lock-sync clauses (locked under each workflow's path / no orphans / transitively closed) — 32 workflows, 29 dependency records.
  3. rust-ci coverage could never pass: taiki-e/install-action had no tool:, then ran cargo llvm-cov. Fixed. Fuzz lane was \|\| true + continue-on-error (could not fail) — now a real compile gate; ClusterFuzzLite keeps execution.
  4. security-scan passed regardless of findings for its whole life (reusable default none). Now fail_on_severity: critical; PR-time assail + pons live in the new deep-recon lane at the same threshold, ratchet-to-high sequenced (R-1 in docs/CI-CD.adoc).

New lanes

  • CI Meta — zizmor (84 → 0 findings under the recorded .zizmor.yml ref-pin policy: pinning here is the lockfile's job), actionlint, cicd-squabbler squabble chains via the attested composite action (cycles/dead upstreams block), KYAML (D280: report-only scan + blocking converted list).
  • Deep Recon — pons-asinorum (--fail-on error, SARIF → code scanning) + panic-attack assail (critical gates), both built at pinned commits, PR + weekly.
  • proven-tests (Idris2) — the full testing framework treatment: verification/test-registry.json tiers all 91 test/bench/fuzz/proof files (actually-proven 9 Coq · provisionally-proven 21 · unproven 61) and scripts/ci/test-evidence.sh fails on any registry↔tree drift or proof-less top-tier claim; new verification/proven-tests/ Idris2 package (octad/drift/provenance model invariants) runs against proven-tests-and-benches at a pin. rust-ci also gains test-evidence + in-diff pr-mutants; nightly.yml adds full mutants + cargo-hack feature powerset; bench.yml actually executes criterion + benchee weekly.
  • K9 + DEED conformance — standards reusables, require-files: true; ships the missing repo deed verisimdb_chora.deed.
  • ijson-jcs — the estate tool (RFC 7493/8785), report-only + blocking converted list; labels.json, label-classifier.json, test-registry.json canonicalised. .github/FUNDING.yml is canonical KYAML.

Hardening (whole estate surface)

persist-credentials: false on every checkout; no ${{ }} inside run: (env-only); read-all permissions gone; secrets: inherit replaced with explicit passing in mirror + secret-scanner (standards#1108 §6b — the new secret-scanner reusable needs only contents: read, which also resolves #318's CodeRabbit finding on that file); Scorecard grants actions: read on the calling job as its reusable requires; bridge-gate builds panic-attack at a pin with --locked instead of upstream-of-the-day; elixir-ci's 4 copy-pasted change detectors → one shared script; dependabot grouped/lock-aware + fuzz workspaces; .coderabbit.yaml added (reviews previously ran with no repository configuration applied, per #318).

Scope discipline

No production code changed; no gate weakened anywhere (squabble ≠ bypass). Pre-existing product reds on main (cargo audit/deny/clippy advisories, elixir coverage 58.4%) belong to #318, which already fixes the Tokio/Tantivy side; this PR does not hide them. Expected check delta vs main: everything this PR's lanes own goes green; #318's reds stay identically red until it lands — merge order (either way) + rebase notes are in docs/UPSTREAM-PROMPTS.adoc (P-318), alongside copy-paste prompts for standards, cicd-squabbler, proven-tests, pons, panic-attack, ijson-jcs, kyq/KYAML and hypatia for the upstream changes this overhaul surfaced.

Owner actions after merge

Recorded as ratchets R-1…R-7 in docs/CI-CD.adoc, notably: add the new lane contexts to the branch ruleset once each has 5 green main runs (YAML cannot do this itself), and confirm the Actions posture allowed_actions=all + sha_pinning_required=true (kept). Commits here are unsigned (sandbox), so if Require-Signed-Commits blocks, squash-merge via the web UI or re-sign locally.

Validation (local, pre-push)

All 32 workflows YAML-parse; zizmor clean; lock-sync 3-clause port PASS; test-evidence.sh PASS (91/91); reuse lint compliant (835 files); shellcheck clean; doc-consonance/doc-links (+positive control)/modality-contract/assail-classifications gates PASS; A2ML/deed validation PASS. No Rust/Elixir/Idris toolchain exists in the authoring sandbox — first execution of the compiled lanes is this PR's CI, which is the point of the exercise.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Added scheduled benchmark runs and expanded automated checks for security, formatting, conformance, mutation testing and test evidence.
    • Added provisional verification coverage for modality, drift and provenance behaviour.
  • Improvements

    • CI applies stricter checks for critical security findings and more consistent validation across supported components.
    • Dependency updates are checked weekly, with separate monthly checks for fuzzing components.
  • Documentation

    • Added guides covering CI/CD workflows, test evidence levels and benchmark practices.

…ic deep-recon, proven-tests evidence, K9/DEED, KYAML + I-JSON/JCS lanes

Root cause: three pinned standards commits no longer exist (API 422),
so Governance/Hypatia/Scorecard were startup_failure; rust-ci coverage
installed no tool then ran cargo llvm-cov; fuzz gate could not fail;
security-scan passed regardless of findings; bridge-gate built
panic-attack from unpinned upstream HEAD.

- Re-pin all standards callers to one vetted commit, panic-attack in
  lockstep (supersedes #312); regenerate actions.lock, verified
  against all three lock-sync clauses.
- New lanes: ci-meta (zizmor 84->0, actionlint, squabble chains,
  KYAML), deep-recon (pons-asinorum SARIF + panic-attack assail),
  proven-tests (Idris2 suites + evidence registry gate),
  k9-deed-conformance (+ verisimdb_chora.deed), ijson-jcs, bench,
  nightly (mutants + feature powerset). rust-ci gains test-evidence
  and in-diff pr-mutants jobs.
- Evidence derived not declared: verification/test-registry.json
  tiers all 91 test/bench/fuzz/proof files, gate-enforced.
- Least privilege everywhere: persist-credentials false, no
  template expansion in run:, no secrets: inherit (fixes #318's
  CodeRabbit finding here), read-all removed.
- .coderabbit.yaml (reviews had no repo config), dependabot grouped
  + lock-aware, docs/CI-CD.adoc + docs/UPSTREAM-PROMPTS.adoc.

No production code changes. No gate weakened.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 7 functions across 5 files. (49 skipped: 49 unsupported.)

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

The active directly linked issue [#318] has coding requirements beyond CI configuration. The reviewed change summary shows no production-code changes and states that the product failures remain unchanged. Therefore, this PR does not establish the requested loopback and CORS defaults, configured-auth regressions, bounded fail-closed VCL invocation, Rustler/NIF retirement, or the Tantivy identity and migration repair. The CI repair subset is addressed by workflow changes, test-evidence checks, and stricter security gates, but the full linked issue remains unmet.

Resolution

Implement and test the remaining [#318] product requirements in the reviewed head, or split them into a separate PR and remove the direct link if this PR is intended to provide CI repairs only.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The PR contains substantial changes with no demonstrated connection to the coding requirements in [#318]. The new K9/DEED and ijson-jcs conformance lanes, proven-tests Idris2 package and registry, benchmark and mutation lanes, CI Meta and Deep Recon scanners, repository formatting conversions, and upstream prompt document extend repository governance and tooling beyond the linked internal-service baseline, transport retirement, Tantivy repair, modality checker, and related CI repairs. The workflow hardening and CI checks that support [#318] are in scope, but these additional objectives are not.

Resolution

Remove the unrelated governance, conformance, proof-framework, benchmark, mutation, scanner, formatting, and upstream-prompt changes, or link them to active issues that require them and keep this PR focused on the resulting scope.

Restore and validate the committed Criterion baseline.

When benches/baseline exists, restore its contents to target/criterion before running the comparison. Remove || true so a failed comparison fails the step.

The current head has no committed baseline, so it takes the --save-baseline committed branch and does not perform the comparison. The workflow must not claim a committed-baseline comparison until that baseline is committed and restored.

Update the benches/baseline branch in the workflow to restore its contents to
target/criterion before running cargo bench, and remove the failure suppression
so a failed comparison fails the step. Keep the committed-baseline comparison
conditional on the baseline directory being present.

Fixed in 58d57e7 — criterion baselines live under target/criterion//committed; benches/baseline/ is now treated as a committed snapshot of target/criterion and restored there before the compare run.

@hyperpolymath Verified the baseline restoration in 58d57e7. The workflow now copies benches/baseline/. into target/criterion/ before comparison.

The failure-handling part remains unresolved. || rc=$? records a failed benchmark command, but the step does not propagate that failure. Please make benchmark execution failures fail the step while retaining artifact uploads. This does not require a performance-regression threshold.

Correct the formatter path in the drift message.

When --check finds drift, this message directs users to scripts/kyaml-format.sh. The supplied formatter is scripts/ci/kyaml-format.sh, so the suggested command cannot repair the file. Correct the message upstream and re-vendor it. As per path instructions, “Vendored scripts under scripts/ci/ are fixed upstream in hyperpolymath/standards first.”

Upstream by design — this file is vendored verbatim and must not be edited locally. The $0 fix (plus jq preflight gaps) is now itemised in docs/UPSTREAM-PROMPTS.adoc P-STD-2 for metadatastician/standards; we re-vendor when it lands.

@hyperpolymath Understood. Keep the vendored file unchanged locally. Your P-STD-2 follow-up covers the upstream fix; the formatter-path finding remains pending until the fixed script is re-vendored.

L208: ## Workflow Files
L209:
L210: For basic ClusterFuzzLite functionality, all you need is a single workflow file to enable fuzzing on your pull requests.
L211:
L212:   * `.github/workflows/cflite_pr.yml` (for PR fuzzing)
L213:
L214: To enable more features, we recommend having these additional files:
L215:
L216:   * `.github/workflows/cflite_build.yml` (for continuous builds)
L217:   * `.github/workflows/cflite_batch.yml` (for batch fuzzing)
L218: * `.github/workflows/cflite_cron.yml` (for tasks done on a cron schedule: pruning and coverage)
L219: These workflow files are used by GitHub actions to run the ClusterFuzzLite actions. For a complete example on a real project, see 【72†https://github.com/oliverchang/curl】.

Remove the unused security-events permission.

Both workflows use run_fuzzers@v1 with output-sarif omitted. The action defaults this input to false, so these workflows do not need security-events: write.

Fixed in 58d57e7 — same as cflite_batch: job-level grant only.

@hyperpolymath Moving the grant to job level narrows its scope, but the unused permission remains. The supplied workflow still grants security-events: write, while output-sarif is omitted and defaults to false. No SARIF upload step is configured.

Please remove the unused job-level grant from both workflows. Keep actions: read and contents: read unchanged.

…-recon cache fix, shellcheck clean

The standards repo was transferred to the metadatastician org: callers
by the old owner and lock records naming the old owner_id are both
rejected (Actions does not follow transfers for reusable uses, and
lockfile verification compares owner ids). All standards callers and
the lockfile now name metadatastician/standards at the same commit.
Also: mirror secret name is SOURCEHUT_SSH_KEY (exact declared name);
deep-recon clone/target dirs are disjoint (a cache-restored target
inside the clone path made git clone exit 128 on warm runs — the
cold-cache first run passing masked it); the three actionlint
shellcheck findings in pages/ghcr/dogfood run blocks fixed.

k9-validate at the lane's pin: 5 of 6 tracked .k9.ncl now conform
(adjust/intend synced to standards' canonical repairs - K9! sentinel,
pedigree_schema from ../_base.ncl instead of the never-resolving
svc/k9 import, capability grants, contract annotations - keeping
verisimdb's 6a2 paths; setup-repo granted/described/signature-block;
templates renamed *.k9.ncl.in: a template is not a component and is
never loaded). The one remaining file cannot be repaired locally:
deploy.k9.ncl imports pedigree.ncl/leash.ncl from a layout that
exists in no current repo, so it enters the shrink-only ledger
pending the canonical lib home (docs/UPSTREAM-PROMPTS.adoc P-K9).

Hypatia (app) flagged || true in the new lanes; actionlint and the
report-only bench/mutants lanes now capture and surface exit codes
explicitly instead of masking them. The gates themselves are
unchanged in effect and stated in each step.

Ratchet-exception: .machine_readable/k9-contract-debt.txt — initial ledger, count 1: connectors/test-infra/deploy.k9.ncl imports pedigree.ncl/leash.ncl from a standards self-validating layout that exists in no current repo; making it conforming requires the upstream canonical K9 lib home (P-K9), not a locally invented library.

Valid and fixed: ci-meta path filters removed (path-filtered
required checks deadlock merge); pr-mutants uploads its report;
GHCR push step defines its credentials; pages build job drops
pages:write (upload-pages-artifact v5 is a composite: tar +
upload-artifact, no API/OIDC calls) and the workflow-level
pages/id-token writes go with it; cflite security-events moves to
job level; deep-recon skips SARIF upload on dependabot/fork PRs
(read-only token would fail the job after the gate passed);
criterion baseline restore uses target/criterion semantics;
actions.lock stays in CodeRabbit's checkout per the path
instructions; detect-changes fails open when the PR files endpoint
truncates at 3,000 and no longer SIGPIPE-inverts its grep;
test-evidence discovery covers every .rs under a tests/ dir (the
two integration.rs crates are now registered: 93 files).

Idris suites migrated off the legacy provisionalTest constructor
(it stamps FixtureDebt, whose tests are not counted in any ledger)
to classifyProvisionallyProven with real FixturePairs — silence and
firing fixtures are runtime-constructed and evaluated by new
negative-control tests in each module (complete vs 7-modality
octad; identical vs changed content hash; pure append vs rewritten
history). Stronger tests, honest tier.

Already-fixed on later commits (replied as outdated): deep-recon
cache/clone collision, Hypatia exit-masking. Vendored-script message
path is upstream work — added to P-STD-2 (print $0; preflight jq).

hyperpolymath and others added 2 commits October 25, 2026 20:18
- actions.lock regenerated for the pr-mutants artifact step and the
  harden-runner below (per-file uses lists included); the load-bearing
  symbolic refs (cicd-squabbler ref 'main', rust-cache 'v2.9.3') that
  a naive regeneration overwrites are restored — GitHub lockfile
  verification rejects a bare-SHA ref on a direct step action.
- deep-recon SARIF upload: actor-based gating is spoofable surface;
  code scanning is now fed from push/schedule runs only. On PRs the
  pons gate still enforces and the artifact carries the SARIF.

@coderabbitai review

All 17 comments from the first review have replies with dispositions (fixed in 58d57e7 / ec3fdb0 / c9c8d6f, two already-fixed noted, one upstream in P-STD-2). Please re-review the incremental diff.

Final check board (HEAD c9c8d6f): 63 success / 2 skipped-by-design / 6 classified failures

Every lane this PR creates or touches is green — including Idris2 proven-tests (now on the classification path with evaluated silence/firing fixtures), K9 conformance (5/6 files conform; 1 in the shrink-only debt ledger with a Ratchet-exception trailer), DEED lint, cicd-squabbler chains, zizmor+actionlint, KYAML, I-JSON/JCS, pons-asinorum, panic-attack assail, both lockfile gates, coverage ≥60%, pr-mutants, ClusterFuzzLite, and the Hypatia app + workflow checks. Governance runs estate-meaningfully for the first time (17/21 jobs green).

The 6 reds predate this PR or belong upstream; none is weakened or exempted here:

Check Owner of the fix
cargo deny, clippy (all-targets) Red on current main; the Tokio/Tantivy advisory line belongs to #318 (see its comment + docs/UPSTREAM-PROMPTS.adoc P-318)
governance / Allowlist Preflight metadatastician/standards: allowed-actions.json lacks metadatastician/* patterns after the repo transfer (P-STD-1, measured GAP output in prompt)
governance / Language policy scripts/check-modality-contract.py — #318 already carries the bash/awk/jq replacement; noted there as load-bearing
governance / UUID v7 + v8 Owner decisions (OctadId migration / crate version), P-STD-1 question 3

Merge mechanics: sandbox commits are unsigned, and the Require-Signed-Commits ruleset is active — use a web squash-merge (GitHub signs it) or re-sign. #312 is superseded by this PR (commented).
