test/legendcoveragecheck.sh hit its 1200 s budget on the macOS plain shard 4/4 twice in three days (the PR runs of #385 and #393). Gate-only change; no source change, and every PASS/FAIL/COUNTS line is byte-identical.

Why it was slow: 176 calls, all already on the warm per-root cache, run strictly one after another. The cost was the serial schedule, not cold parses. The two --pr-context=HEAD~30 calls alone took ~105 s and ~50 s (about 40% of the run).

The change:

Evidence:

  • Local wall 322/316 s → 143/138 s (2 interleaved runs each, Release build); output byte-identical on both pairs, ALL PASS.
  • Mutations still fail: an injected undefined attribute fails (A) and (G); LEGENDCOV_CALL_TIMEOUT=3 prints 16 TIMEOUT FAIL lines and exits 1.
  • gateexitcheck and manifestcheck pass; --quality-delta gates 0.

Found along the way (not in this PR): src/gitmine.h cochangePartners rebuilds StaticIncludeCoupling once per changed file, about 87% of --pr-context's time. Hoisting it out of that loop is a separate source change, tracked for the next integration train.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Tests
    • Legend-coverage checks now run roster commands concurrently, with heavier calls prioritized and doctor checks run afterward.
    • Timeouts, launch errors, and signal terminations are reported as failures instead of empty results. Dropped-legend probes use the same handling.
    • Worker count and per-call timeout can be configured. Existing roster-order verdicts and handling of nonzero command exits remain unchanged.

…l timeouts

The gate ran its ~170 independent read-only calls one at a time: 394 s on
the dev machine, and over its 1200 s budget (rc=124) on the macOS plain
shard twice in three days. Two calls (--pr-context=HEAD~30, with and
without a budget) are ~40% of that by themselves; that cost is inside
ripwire, not the gate.

- The roster and the (E) dropped-note sweep share one runner: a thread
pool (LEGENDCOV_JOBS, default min(4, cpus); 1 = the old serial run),
heaviest calls submitted first. Every row still runs its own command
once and is judged in roster order as before. --doctor, whose answer
reads the cache directory, runs serially after the pool drains.
- Every call has a budget (LEGENDCOV_CALL_TIMEOUT, default 600 s). A call
that times out or dies on a signal prints its own TIMEOUT/ERROR FAIL
line naming the call, instead of an empty document read as silent or a
partial one judged for gaps. A non-zero exit code is judged as before.

No assertion, roster row, floor or expected count changed.

📝 Walkthrough

The legend coverage script now runs roster and dropped-legend calls through a configurable Python thread pool. It records timeouts, launch errors, and signal termination as failures, while preserving roster-order verdict processing.

Changes: Legend coverage checks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Concurrent roster execution
test/legendcoveragecheck.sh
A shared Python runner executes prioritized roster calls concurrently and runs designated calls after the pool drains. The roster gate reports recorded failures and fails if it cannot read the call-outcome file.
Pooled dropped-legend probes
test/legendcoveragecheck.sh
Each dialect’s tight, wide, and margin-budget probes use pooled calls. Call failures are reported for that dialect, and the headroom check uses the fetched margin-budget document.

The gate still fails on these errors, but some call-specific diagnostics can be lost. These are bounded risks rather than a reason to block merging.

Disposition of the CodeRabbit review: the one finding (record every failed dropped-note call) is fixed in 03c29ef, the only commit after the reviewed head cdd75d4.

Disposition update: 0250675 merges main (a87470c, #395) into this branch so CI runs with the faster --pr-context. The previous run timed out on that call on a slow macOS runner. No change to this PR's own diff. Commits after the reviewed head cdd75d4: 03c29ef (the CodeRabbit fix) and 0250675 (this merge).
