Part of the Stats v2 soft launch: the Ads tab (Jetpack Stats v2: Ads tab in Stats) and the Subscribers tab.

Proposed changes

Add subscribers and ads to PREVIEW_SECTIONS, so a site in the Premium Analytics customer preview gets the Subscribers and Ads tabs alongside Traffic and Insights.

This only widens the preview scope. Subscribers keeps its own availability gate. Whether the Ads section exists at all is still decided by its registrants since #52455: the WordAds module on the Jetpack plugin path and jetpack-mu-wpcom on WordPress.com, each gated on WordAds being available and on the ad-reports capability. A site without WordAds sees no new tab (UNI-816 tracks promoting it there); a WordAds site in the preview now sees Ads without the a11n flag.

Tests: the published scope now lists Subscribers, a plugin-registered wordads/ads section lands in it, and Store stays out. One test assumed every preview tab is a package section; it now names the package's tabs, since Ads is not one.

No.

Testing instructions

On a WordPress.com Simple site opted into the preview with WordAds active (or the local Docker site with zz-tmp-pa-wordads-mock.php and the preview option on):

  • As the site owner, open Stats. The tab bar shows Traffic, Insights, Subscribers and Ads; ?section=ads opens the tab, and /reports/earnings opens.
  • On a preview site without WordAds, the tab bar gains Subscribers only.
  • jp test php packages/premium-analytics passes.

The preview exposed Traffic and Insights. Subscribers and Ads join them
for the soft launch. Ads is registered by the WordAds module and
jetpack-mu-wpcom, so a site without WordAds still gets no Ads tab.

Are you an Automattician? Please test your changes on all WordPress.com environments to help mitigate accidental explosions.

  • To test on WoA, go to the Plugins menu on a WoA dev site. Click on the "Upload" button and follow the upgrade flow to be able to upload, install, and activate the Jetpack Beta plugin. Once the plugin is active, go to Jetpack > Jetpack Beta, select your plugin (Jetpack or WordPress.com Site Helper), and enable the add/premium-analytics-ads-preview-section branch.
  • To test on Simple, run the following command on your sandbox:
bin/jetpack-downloader test jetpack add/premium-analytics-ads-preview-section
bin/jetpack-downloader test jetpack-mu-wpcom-plugin add/premium-analytics-ads-preview-section

Interested in more tips and information?

  • In your local development environment, use the jetpack rsync command to sync your changes to a WoA dev blog.

Code Coverage Summary

This PR did not change code coverage!

That could be good or bad, depending on the situation. Everything covered before, and still is? Great! Nothing was covered before? Not so great. 🤷

Both would ship in the same release and contradict each other, so the
Subscribers-and-Ads entries now say Subscribers only.

…OOA7S-2208 lands (#52768)

* Premium Analytics: take the Ads tab out of the customer preview

Gary's call on the soft-launch thread: hold the Ads tab until it shows only on
sites that use WordAds (WOOA7S-2208). Subscribers stays in the preview.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* Fold the changelog into the unreleased #52720 entries

Both would ship in the same release and contradict each other, so the
Subscribers-and-Ads entries now say Subscribers only.
