Distributed Knowledge Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of cross-shard federation workflows
  • expansion of deterministic reliability under timeout and partial-failure pressure
  • stricter benchmark-backed guardrails for aggregation, merge, and sync hot paths
  • v2.x federation roadmap aligned with Phase 2-3 hardening (Q4 2026)

Design Constraints

  • distributed contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • privacy/policy/trust gates remain explicit and fail closed.
  • shard timeout and partial-response handling remain bounded and observable.
  • federated state transitions remain auditable and diagnosable.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
capability interfaces deterministic cross-shard announcement behavior
federation interfaces bounded aggregation intake and round semantics
merge interfaces stable partial-failure-aware cross-shard merge contracts
sync/distillation interfaces privacy-aware synchronization and policy-governed distillation

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity of policy/privacy behavior across all federation workflows.
  • standardize diagnostics for timeout, replay/dedup, and trust-gate rejections.
  • expand resilience tests for sustained multi-shard mixed capability states.
  • broaden benchmark depth to additional distillation and governance paths.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for federation and merge execution paths.
  • regressions for timeout, dedup, policy, and partial-shard failure scenarios.
  • deterministic stress runs across shard permutation and topology cases.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped distributed_knowledge targets.

Performance Targets

  • aggregation and merge hot paths remain within regression budgets.
  • concurrent cross-shard behavior remains stable at p95/p99.
  • benchmark manifests for mapped distributed_knowledge targets reach no-missing-case status.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict policy/privacy/trust gating for cross-shard actions.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for degraded shard/dependency states.
  • enforce bounded merge/sync behavior under pressure.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production federation incidents.
