Failover Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of failover/recovery runtime behavior
  • expansion of deterministic reliability under dependency and queue pressure
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for recovery orchestration hot paths

Design Constraints

  • failover/recovery contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • unsafe transition scenarios remain fail-closed and explicitly observable.
  • queue/retry/dependency behavior remains bounded and diagnosable.
  • recovery step transitions remain auditable.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
failover manager interface deterministic queue/worker lifecycle behavior
recovery manager interface explicit plan validation and ordered execution semantics
telemetry interface bounded queue/retry/state observability

Implementation Notes

  • tighten dependency/fencing edge behavior across failover and recovery workflows (Q4 2026).
  • standardize diagnostics for queue saturation, retry escalation, and DR-step failures β€” partial delivery complete (Q3 2026), remaining scope in Q4 2026.
  • expand resilience tests for repeated failover/recovery cycle pressure (Q4 2026).
  • add dedicated failover-specific benchmarks to replace broad proxy reliance β€” FRG-01..FRG-06 delivered (Q3 2026); p95/p99 re-baseline planned Q1 2027.

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for failover queue and DR-step execution flows.
  • regressions for invalid plans, unavailable dependencies, and timeout scenarios.
  • deterministic stress runs for multi-node failover queue pressure.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped failover targets.

Performance Targets

  • failover/recovery orchestration paths remain within regression budgets.
  • queue/retry paths remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • benchmark manifests for mapped failover targets reach no-missing-case status.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict validation and guarded transitions for recovery actions.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for dependency-degraded states.
  • enforce bounded queue and retry behavior under pressure.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production failover incidents.
